I see the irony and am definitely amused. But they are suing people for using the name "Rota" on stuff they didn't make, not becuase the design in similar. So I can see their point there.

i am glad rota got their arse licked by bad karma. about time! lol :icon17:

They copied & stole some of the most famous wheel designs by top wheel manufacturers and passed them off as their own. But they used lower quality materials and no R&D.

Chuck33079 08-15-2013 08:56 AM

They make knockoff wheels. Reasonably well made knockoffs, but knockoffs nonetheless. A lot of people look down on knockoffs, but I had a set on a previous car and they worked fine. It's a lot easier to replace a bent $125 wheel than a $750 wheel, and the roads I was driving on were terrible.

Them suing anybody for anything is hilarious, even if it's for using their name. Karma's a bitch, ain't she?

They're a hell of a lot better made than XXR. XXR is for people who don't want to pay the additional cost for Rotas, or people who want to put a 225 on a 10" wheel.

damian_mb 08-15-2013 09:25 AM

knock offs of knock offs...Rota = full of fail

This would be like Justin Timberlake suing Michael Jackson for "copying" his falsetto in songs he produces.

That's probably a little bit harsh. Rota's wheels are at least reasonable quality, and they've never directly copied other wheels (to my knowledge), instead leaning towards the "inspired by" side. They've gotten a bad rep because people will throw Rays/VOLK/SSR stickers on the fakes.

In this case, the copies are actually sticking the Rota name on the wheel...directly impugning the brand rather than just lifting the style. Rota has actually built a somehwat valuable brand as producing "safe fakes"

I never said they were bad, just lower quality material, up to the owner to decide if he wants to spend much more for different material. And yes, the bad rep more so came from people buying other stickers and slapping them on the replicas.

Coming from owning numerous Volk/Rays wheels they are one of my least favorite companies as they blatently knock off almost every Volk wheel but use far inferior materials and build process.

Their product is not good at all. There are a lot of youtube vids and pictures showing the quality of these wheels breaking off the hub at the spokes!

There are other companies that make original wheels and are not that much more pricey.
