For those of you interested in the RE-11A.....

I was looking at Dunlop Direzza ZII's, but the largest they make is the stock SP sizes (245/40/19 & 275/35/19) and only $75 cheaper than Re-11's running 265/35/19 & 305/30/19.

Chrischhorn, I am looking at getting some new tires for the track in 255/40/19 or 265/35/19 fronts and 285/35/19 rear. If I get a set of the RE-11's now on closeout would I be able to get new rears to wear out the set sometime next year?

Or is it once the stock is fully gone on the RE-11 in 19's then you are SOL? If so it may be better for me to get the Dunlop Direzza's or Michelin PSS so I have an option to replace later. Or am I way off on this whole RE-11 in 19's thing and the RE-11 will continue to be made or they will finally make the RE-11a's in 19's by next year regardless of what Bridgestone has said in recent months?

I was as well. RE-11's right now are $1,125.56 shipped vs $1,377.23 for PSS shipped in same sizes. Which is why I asked the question is it wise to pick up a set of RE-11's over something else for the track? If I will still be able to purchase RE-11's next year when the rears wear out, etc.

Glad to know the RE-11 are staying around, this means I can order 2 new rears later this year. But sucks at the same time because the new compound for the RE-11a sounds interesting and seems stupid to keep producing 2 different tires.

Are you sure they are staying around? That is what I am asking before purchasing a whole new set. I don't want to find myself next year needing new rears and having to get a whole new set of something else as the RE-11 are still listed as CLOSEOUT on TireRack. Closeout to me normally means its not coming back once fully sold out of stock.

The 98W are on closeout but the 102W have plenty in stock, they might be just removing the 98W from the line up.
Also, betting on a tire to be around every year is usually a good idea but you never know what will happen from one year to the next.

To add to this interesting debate. I decided to look up on tirerack my last order.
305/30R19 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 - No Longer Available (Even though they have plenty of RE-11 in stock)
265/35R19 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 - In stock

I went back to the main pages where both 305/30R19 are listed and both are in stock, I wonder if Bridgestone has changed more over the years with the 305 RE-11 and the version I bought are gone. Might even be that the RE-11 we see later this might be the RE-11a compound, the a might just be a marketing gimmick for the smaller cars.

They had to retool the stamps on it to show 200aa.

I am done with re11 on this car after I toss my current set. I do have to say they are still okay at like 16k miles even though they are completely bald!!

Correct, Bridgestone and MANY other tires and companies are retagging their D.O.T. Extremem performance tires to 200 Treadwear ratings in order to be able to be used in the "Street" class in 2014 for AutoX as the rules states that the tires being used must have a 200 Treadwear rating or higher. The ZII's and the RS-3's being 2 of the biggest have also been retagged as a 200 Treadwear rating with no change to the compound.
