Rim Repair?
 

I took my car to have it tinted, the good news is that it came out well...bad news, when the guy parked the car he scuffed my rim on a curb. Of course, they can't do anything about it so I'm left with a small scratch on my rim...nice huh? It's not very noticeable however, considering the fact that I've only had the car for a week I'd like to get it fixed.

Does anyone have a shop they'd recommend in the N. Va area?

Can't recommend a shop but what I can recommend is just forgetting about that scuff. Around here anything short of a hack job costs anywhere from $100-150 for some coarse curb rash. There's no telling what the higher end repair shops will charge you but imho it's not worth it.

Those repairs generally do not last and keep in mind that the next day you might very well rub up against a curb yourself. Just forget about it; in a few weeks you won't even notice it.

Can't you get it repaired by the shop...or at least payed for? If some yahoo scratched my rim while my car was "in their hands" for any type of work, I would raise some hell.

I'm with Alexus. I've rubbed two of my rims and I've just learned to live with it. I'm sure I'll do it again eventually, and it will be even more mentally painful if I've just paid to fix it when I scuff it again.

My plan...wait until they are downright ugly looking from rash (hopefully never) and then fix them. If I did it each time, it would just be a needless hassle.

a guy i know got curb rash fixed for 50 bucks here in Montreal and the results are pretty darn good too

Well, my wife and I are friends with the owners and it was an accident. I could file a claim but would rather avoid that. A friend of mine got his hre rim on his viper fixed and it looks perfect, problem is the shop is several hours from me so I was looking for a local recommendation.

Just curious, why can't they do anything about it? They should be liable for damaging your vehicle. I would go back and complain to the manager and demand they credit you the cost of the repair.

They should be held accountable.

Tell your insurance, tell them that it was their fault, and that they are liable for the damages.

Those rims (and tires) aren't cheap!

Hardly worth filing an insurance claim...

Im not sure if your dealership offered it to you, but when I bought my car I got lifetime road and hazard coverage for the rims. Say if you hit a pothole and dent them, chip them, scratch them really badly, so on and so fourth, the way it was explained to me is the road and hazard coverage would replace or fix them for like $40. I may be wrong but this is the way it was explained to me and what I understood when I read the contract for it.

But make sure you included that coverage in your warranty, if not then yea it's gonna be out of pocket and prolly not worth it.

When the other party is at fault, it is. They pay the deductible (at least in Oklahoma), and you won't see an increased premium...

If they are your friends, then at MINIMUM they should help cover a good chunk of the cost to get it fixed.

F that, friends my ***...if they burned your car to the ground in the shop would you say, "Oops...ah well, you're my friend - I wont ask you to pay for a new one"?

That warranty does not cover curb rash.

Around here you deductible is typically $500. It won't cost $500 to get that rim repaired.

Yeah, I went there and they pretty much said they wont be able to 100% match the wheels at all due to some proprietary color Rays uses or something, but it'd be REALLY close.

I was actually going to recommend them as well.

I think that's the same with a lot of manufacturers. They couldn't exactly match the gold color on the Subaru JDM STi wheels, but they said they could get the shade close enough that the untrained eye would never know the difference. If I were going to keep that car, I was thinking of painting my spare set gunmetal.

I backed into a curb that I couldn't see the first week of owning the car :(

Left a small (1cm) gouge in lip. Most peope would have lived with it as it's pretty minor. Well I had a guy who does mobile alloy rim repair come fix it.

He charged 100 bucks and used a more expensive color called "hyper-silver" to match the paint of the Rays. I can't tell where it was done!


Now a question of my own. How long should I wait after repair before I wash the car?

My man Bruce Foltz is in Vienna, VA has a business called the Bumper Guys. I've used him to do any bodywork i've ever needed. He's already repaired 2 of my 370 rims and it was perfect work. He does work for all the dealers in the area and I found out about him through a delear recommendation.
