Mismatching Front and Rear tires
In my case, my rear stock Yokohama Advan Sport 285/35/19 are almost brand new. But the front 2 go bald. I am thinking to replace them with slightly used(7/32) stock Bridgestone Potenza Re050A(245/40/19). They are little cheaper then get new Advans.
I've heard mismatching front and rear tires is bad practice in general. But in my case, they are same type of tires. Both are rated ZR. Is there any disadvantage or harm of this setup(both in wet and dry condition)? Anyone had any experience? |

naw, i wouldn't worry about it. the yok sports grip better than the RE050A's anyway. you might have a tad more push near the limit on a tight corner, but wont need to worry about the car being tail happy.
just make sure the tires are broken in before taking it for a crazy drive. |

For daily driving, I have re50's on the front and the previous owner swapped the rears to goodyear f1's. There is no problem I can detect. Most people recommend against it. My car was used and came this way so I am just burning the rest of the RE50's until I can match the fronts to the rears.
For track days, I will be buying a set of RS3's on new wheels. My personal opinion is that for daily driving, as long as you aren't noticing any real problems in your steering, then having them mismatched is really not an issue. For track I would not recommend it, weird things happen to tires on the track. |

Seriously, thanks for the input guys. I was little bit concerned about the handling and tire wear because of the mismatched front and rear. I guess for dd it should be just fine. I will grab the used Potenza for now. |

yah, if you were to get shitty tires for the rear, then story is different. but for the front and RE050A's, this is a non-issue imo. |

Yeah that actually makes sense to me now. If the rear tires get less grip on a RWD, it has the tendency to spin out. But since the Advan is little bit more sticky I should be okay. Thanks for the info!

i always thought better traction to have in the front since theres heavy load on the fronts with braking/turning in corners
