Real or Fake

Hey guys, I found a company off craigslist that sells wheels and tires. I called him up and got a quote for Stance SC5's at 20x10.5 & 20x9 with Hankook v12 285 & 265. I was quoted at $2200.00. Is that to good to be true? And how would i be able to tell a real from fake? I don't want to get suckered, but i don't know crap when it comes to wheels.

Xplicit97 03-30-2013 09:27 PM

Stance wheels are "replicas"
anyhow, so as far as the wheels being "fake" I think you're good

They're replicas?? That sucks.... Like i said, I dont know crap about wheels. What are they replicas of? I want the legit wheels if im going to be dropping the cash.

thanks for the reference! Yea just the wheels alone are 2,099. but Im getting them with tires. Thats why I was concerned on the low price.

raymondo510 03-30-2013 11:29 PM

I think they're pretty cool

SgtGoldy 03-30-2013 11:34 PM

Just did a bit of research and CV3s are the "original" and to be honest I think I like the look of the Vossens more. Hopefully I can find a good deal on them :/

I contacted Diego at Vossen, just waiting on his PM reply.

raymondo510 03-30-2013 11:43 PM

Yea they are, but to me the vossens seemed kinda curved inwards instead more rigid, I don't know if that makes sense but I've seen them on some Z's and was crazy about them.

yea its that concave look. I like it on the G, not so much the Z. Same goes with the TE37's. On the Z they look sooo sexy, on the G they look out of place.

Yea they look really good in that pic, the Z..not so much. I would just try and save up a little more and get some legit wheels

SgtGoldy 03-31-2013 12:03 AM

Thats the plan, I want the CV3s bad now lol.

Akbubba47 03-31-2013 12:14 AM

My .02 cents. Get 19s. It's not a monster truck lol. Again, just my opinion. Your adding even more unsprung weight which is the opposite of what you wanna do. Unless you don't care about performance what so ever.

SgtGoldy 03-31-2013 01:59 AM

Im a performance guy, Im just not sure how much I dig the 19s on the G. We have a huge wheel well and it makes the 19s look tiny.

Also I have some 19 Volks right now that Ill probably keep. You know trade em out for the track if I ever get the free time to go. (plus GTR rolls em... so yea... GTR.... LOL)

If you are looking for performance than you don't want Vossens, 28lbs for a cast wheel vs 20lbs for a forged Volk is not worth it.

I have seen their wheels up close too and honestly don't seem like a quality wheel to me. I know they are a vendor on this forum and others run them but you will never see a set on any of my vehicles.

Keep your Volks

That is not a great price. Did they break it down for you? Wheels, Tires, balance and mounting. For the price, you should be getting better tires.

With the 20" CV3 I'd be adding close 5lbs to each wheel. Not sure if thats excessive or not. I can't see it affecting my performance all that bad, but then again I don't know much about that part of performance modding.

Vossen:
24lbs front and 26lbs rear
(20x9) front and (20x10.5) rear

Volk (Current Setup):
19lbs front and 21lbs rear
(19x8) front and (19x8.5) rear

Well upgrading to 20" wheels will also mean larger rotating mass and also heavier tire. If it was me I would pass

When you say "Volks" you don't mean the stock Rays wheels do you? If you care about weight but don't want to spend a ton of money grab a set of Weddsport SA55m they are like 2300 shipped for a 19 inch set and weigh 21 pounds a piece and are made in JAPAN and you can go with a more aggressive offset and more width and that would look 1000 times better then the dinky widths you have on there now...

Or even a better idea buy some 370z Nismo wheels, they are a concave 5 spoke design like you like but weigh 20-21 pounds and are forged with 19x9.5 front and 19x10.5 rear with Advan sport tires....

SgtGoldy 04-02-2013 06:15 PM

in reality how much slower will it make my acceleration. I mean, will it be that noticeable to go with Vossen?

Yes, but some people don't care so if you are more looks over power then sounds like its a good wheel for you.

Also what Volks are you rocking? Your pic looks like the stock Rays wheels... Not Volks but its hard to see.

Google unsprung weight FYI... A pound can make a huge difference but if you don't care all that much then rock whatever you want... Your G is already like 400 pounds heavier then a Z so what's a little more weight right :) lol

Are you calling my car fat!? It'll take your car any day of the week!!! Not really lol.

Education time: I thought Volks were rays. What's the difference? & I'll look into it, because if unsprung weight hampers me that much i want to avoid it.

adding 5lbs to each wheel is horrendous. it will make your car significantly slower.
i went from the stock g37 18s (which were ~27lbs) to the 370z s-tunes (20.5lbs and 21lbs) and stock tires(28lbs) to conti DWs (25lbs and 27lbs). let's just say it was the best $18XX i've ever spent on my car. i can lift the a wheel+tire with 1 arm now too LOL
simple google search can explain why... if you're a 'performance' guy, then vossens are definitely not the way to go.

you're on the g37 forums and if you look around you can find a post by a mechanical engineer (im banging my head against the wall because i cant find it) who compared different gains an losses from different mods from a scientific perspective. he concluded that rim upgrades are, by far, the best performance upgrades a car can receive (besides forced induction).

here's a good video, btw:

Your car has a little too much junk in the trunk.. Lol

Ok here goes- All Volks are Rays but not all Rays are Volk- Confused?
Rays is the maker- they make Volk, gram lights etc some wheels are just plain Rays wheels.

Also for unsprung weight- if you don't believe me check out the 2 piece rotors for the 370z where it sheds around 8 pounds of unsprung weight and they do dyno runs and the car actually gains horsepower proven.

Also my stock Nismo I think may take you ;)

Waiz 04-02-2013 09:57 PM

Oh damn I thought those were OEM G35 wheels but thought maybe you didn't have the Volks posted

Your wheels are still forged, don't settle for heavy cast wheels!

SgtGoldy 04-03-2013 12:43 AM

Alright... You bastards convinced me to not take the weight. Bye Vossens.... I knew you for such a short moment :'(. I can't hamper my performance, its just not worth it for style. So now onto finding some Forged wheels that will compliment my G!

Suggestions?

Wedsport SA55m is looking like a prime candidate right now... (I want to get both tires and wheels for under 3500.00). Opinions on Work Wheels? Are the forged?? Who wants to just give me some TE37SL for free?!?!?!

Yes Wedsport SA55m you can get with tires for under 3500. Now Weds isn't forged but the way they make the wheel they optimize weight savings so its as light as a forged wheel. ;) just remember who told you about Weds :)

Good luck young Jedi

I will return back to forged wheels after a year or so. Ill keep the Wedsports pristine and resale them and get myself some Volks :D

Couldn't agree more with this.

SA55m's are FTW. I would run 18's though since they are a bit lighter and are less expensive same for the tires.

I was going to say that to the OP but I think he still wants to retain as big a rim as possible without sacrificing too much weight as we talked him off the ledge about a 20 incher! Lol

I was going to say the TC105n is a sexy 18 inch wheel by Weds!

I'm thinking of rocking some SA55s until I decide what wheel I really want :)
Nismo rims are great but I want something different.

jujubii 04-03-2013 01:21 PM

yup, the sa55ms are cast but wedssport prides themself on quality, price, and safety. they were my choice of rims before i came across my current setup.
swisscheesehead on myg37 runs the sa55m setup.

tc105ns are sick too! they jsut dont make them in 19s :(
at least i dont think...

btw, not to steal the thread but what's your guys' take on the f14s?

Waiz 04-04-2013 12:40 AM

I would go with a set of SSR Type F's

You still get the performance gains of a forged wheel without breaking the bank

This is the gold set but they are available in black and silver as well

http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_1987-1.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-1...c773f33a_b.jpg

If I wasn't rolling on my NISMO's I would have bought a set of Type-F's

SgtGoldy 04-04-2013 12:48 AM

22.5lb for a 19x10.5 thats not bad

You're not the only one who overlooks SSR, that's why I made a thread here on this forum to get the word out

There was a guy on my350z that even painted a set blue, I really liked it

Dont get me started on blue wheels!! I have been wanting to do a set of TE37s in the hyper blue! Only have to buy 5000 sets for Rays to do it! lol

I love Volk don't get me wrong- my screen name should tell you that BUT I hate being ahead of them for the demand for what I want..

Example- I wanted Gloss black TE37s back in 2006-07 and they only offered the LE37 with a polished lip which I got BUT tried for Gloss black and they said like minimum of 10 sets or something... Sure enough 2 years later bam they make them... So I upgraded to Gloss black.

Now they make hyper blue in 18 inch TE's but not 19 inch... Lame
