Tire stretching?... Meaty vs low profile...

I'm looking for new shoes for the Z, and ill be frank right off the bat - im as new as it gets to figuring out how something will sit/fit/look

Default Tire stretching?... Meaty vs low profile...

I'm looking for new shoes for the Z, and ill be frank right off the bat - im as new as it gets to figuring out how something will sit/fit/look before it actually is on the car. (reading up a lot of stickies and gulping down info, bear with me...)


My goal is a look similar to this, where the tire looks considerably thinner and flatter on the wheel



as opposed to something like this:



where the tires is all rounded and fat, which is absolutely horrendous looking.




What is the difference im looking at here? is the tire in the first pic stretched? or is it just that certain make of tire that gives that look? how do I achieve the former?


(I do realize the look partially has to do with the lack of lip in the 2nd picture, as well as the lack of drop, compared to the 370 in the first pic)


I am currently looking at something like this...

20 x 9 11 XXR 526 Gold Lip Rims Wheels Staggered 08 09 10 11 12 13 Nissan 370Z | eBay

as i don't have the cash to drop on some works or the venici's I fell in love with, and probably wont for a while (poor college life)

EDIT:

Furthermore, 9 front and 11 rear width, how am I to know how far it will come out of the fender (if at all?) ?
I do know the offset is the distance from the mounting point to the tip of the lip... however that doesnt help me imagine how I'd calculate that.

First off I know how you feel, Theres a TON of information to consider to get the right look whether that be with the low pro tires or the beefier setup. I'm in the same boat as im pretty sure im ordering Work wheels today. I will be going with a 19x9.5+15, 19x11+10. The first pic doesn't seem to have stretched tires just a smaller sidewall. As far as how far the wheel will be to the fender is where wheels width and offsets come into play. Some of the stickied threads have a ton of examples as to what you can do so do some searching in there. One last thing.. did you plan on buying wheels off Ebay? I've never done it but ionno if I would take that risk. Look around some of the vendors as there are some pretty affordable wheels on there from much more reputable dealers than ebay and Good luck

the big differences is the 1st one is 20" wheels and slammed. the 350z looks like stock height or a very mild drop on 19's. The bigger the wheel, the less sidewall you will have which seems to be what you're looking for. Neither picture is stretched. Offsets play the role in how flush to the fenders you will be. are you lowered at all? plan on lowering? willing to run camber?

Im running 19x9.5 +17 & 19x11 +10

Its a beautiful fit. I have a bit of negative camber but I still need to get an alignment.

I rear around about ebay wheels and it seems due to the nature of business on there bad **** doesnt stick around... thus these unknown brand wheels are decent, simply not BBS labeled.

With regards to the smaller sidewall, what dimension of tire (when looking to purchase) am i looking at to get a less meaty tire?

Yes thats exactly what i'm looking for!

I plan to purchase either H&R's or Swifts with the set of wheels, as well as rear camber arms.

First 370z is running 20's so sidewall is slimmer, that 350z is running 18's most likely with a horrible fitting setup

Only reason to stretch is to be able to slam your car on coilovers, otherwise if on springs it will not look right.

255-30-20 & 285-30-20 would be appropriate size tires for a 20" setup

BTW, I did a quick search for XXR 526 370z through google and it directed me to this thread:

finally I put the xxr 526 staggered 20"s

I would just follow his setup but in the gold color that you want

Personally I don't feel there's anything wrong with replicas as long as your not tracking on them, but there are still vendors on here that sell rep's like varstoen on, but some people will debate the whole replica thing.

As far as the dimension depending on widths depends on how wide you can go. I just ordered my Works and my rears 19x11 , at first I was thinking about running 305/30/19 but now I'm thinking about running maybe a 295 or 285 to get that flatter look you speak of

It's the tire, no two size tires of different brands will be 100% equal
