Flat
I got a flat tire this am.. the tires have about 19.5 K miles on it.. should I try to get it fixed or should I look at replacing both REAR tires? I have a base model and I do not plan to get any extra performance tires when its time.. just something that will be safe.
Driving on the spare is I will post a picture of the tire shortly. Thanks, Jay

If they CAN fix it, why not? America's Tire Company, or Discount Tire, or Costco or Sam's club will do it for free (you have to be a member of Sam's/Costco though)

It just can't be in the sidewall and it can't be like a certain distance from the sidewall and you have to have more than 2/32nds" tread on them too If they hassle you about tread or whatever, ask for them to patch it and say you're waiting for your next paycheck, then you'll come back next week when you get paid to get new tires

if it's a nail or something small in the treads, i usually just plug it from the outside.
not sure how much scratches you have on your wheels, but if you take it to just any tire shop, they will most likely scratch the hell out of them. make sure u go to a tireshop with a touchless mounter. americas tires (discount tires) appears to have them these days. they should be able to patch it up form the inside for pretty cheap. like $15-25 tops. they might grant manufacturer warranty too. |

FYI, Costco, Discount tire and others WILL fix your flat even if you didn't buy the tire from them. They do that so you will go back when you need to buy one or four of those $300 tires. I would buy 2 tires with the milage you have on your car. Yes on the stock tires that is a good amount of miles as your rear tires should be about worn out and possibly your fronts as well.

Just to clear it up, Costco's flat repair policy varies from region to region. In Texas, our regional manager said take any flat repair as long as they are members. Here in Hawaii, they said no flat repairs on any tire that wasn't purchased with Costco. It depends on the regional manager. As strange as it is, it is not a company wide policy.

They do in a lot of areas. I was shocked when I got here too. (I work in a Costco tire center btw) I wrote up a member for a flat repair and my supervisor here got all bent out of shape. Kinda stupid but I guess this island has had a lot of failed flat repairs basically forcing them to cover a tire that was never purchased with costco. Plus people on this island seem to enjoy buying the DIY flat repair kits and then when it still leaks they bring it back to us. How stupid.....

Unless you are financially embarrassed right now, I'd go with two tires. If we were talking about a 4-door sedan that putts around town, mismatched tires might not be a big deal, but you're driving a sports car and I assume you are driving it like a sports car. If you do decide to get just one new tire now, I suggest you get the mate ASAP.
