To buy or not to buy
Just discovered 2 nails in my rear tire. Only have about 16k miles on it. Should I buy one new one or go with a buying both rear tires so tread depths match? I'm worried that if they are different it might cause the the LS to function improperly or other handling issues.
Also, were do you all seem to find the best deal on the stock 2012 rear tires? I'm guessing TireRack or the like? Dealer wants $310 per tire. This includes a two year road hazard warranty. I think this is pretty good since Tire Rack is asking $335 without the warranty.

16k... Your rear stock tires should be shot anyways... If not very close to it. Definitely replace both. My understanding is that actually can mess with the LSD. Tires aren't cheap on the sport wheels. My rears are about 400 a piece. Tire rack is a good place to start searching, prices are usually fair Alot are going with pilot sports, RE11's, AD08's, and I've heard good things about vredestein(my spelling of that may be off) but check those out too, they aren't in tire rack but they are much cheaper and I've heard still have good street performance to them

Sorry, I'm also assuming that you can't run different rear tires than those upfront right? meaning stock tires up front and pilot sports, RE11's, AD08's in the rear right?

It's not recommended to do that but some people do since we have no way of rotating our tires. 16k is probably about right but it also depends on your driving habits. You can pick up a tread depth gauge (amazon, local auto shop, etc) for a few bucks to keep track yourself.

Yeah not recommended, but if your casually driving you shouldn't have issues. I'm swapping mine to RE11's in the next week or so, fronts are fine but 14k is about the most I could feasibly get from the rears. I'm changing up sizing substantially 265/35 and 305/30. Had I been switching to the re11's in a 285 I probably would have left the fronts till they wear out.(don't believe re11 comes in a 275) but under normal driving you shouldn't notice any adverse affects.

I run the stocks up front and the RE's in the rear. The rears were gone by 15,00o. I'm at 22,000 now and just getting ready for fronts. I really cant tell you if there is any difference until I put the fronts on, that being said, the car handles great the way it sits. So IMO your fine.
