g-Force Sport COMP-2 reviews?
Any of you guys used these tires? Good for daily driving? Pros and cons compared to the Hankook V12's?

Yeah I was hoping for more like a z car driver review.
|
I had these on the old rsx type s and loved them... until I got the v12's. I'm near in need for a third set of rears for the z and would like to hear if anyone has used the sport comps yet.

I would imagine, given the reputation of the summer BFG's, that comp 2 should have stiffer sidewall than v12, and a better fit for z. But that's speculation Another professional review BFG g-Force Comp-2 Review - Nissan 350Z Forum : 350Z / 370Z Tech Forums I have v12's on my 240sx, good for daily. But for 285/35/19 on the z, I rather pay 60 bucks more per tire and get the conti DW if comfort and wet grip are the focus |
PSS > anything for daily driving ( except for winter weather )

The tread rating on these comp-2's is higher than the V12's but I am reading a few reviews saying they wore out pretty quickly... Anyone have any input on that?

I had the first comps. My bad lol still probably a good tire. In this price range though, the bridgestone re760 is a very nice tire, aside from slight noise, but still tons quieter than the stock tires. I have them now and love them, especially the predicable break-away point!

I have sport comp 2's on my G coupe and I'm extremely impressed. Even when I first bought them I wanted to test their limits due to what I heard about them. I took a hard right turn at 45 in second gear and gave it the hammer, not even a squeal. Straight line acceleration on the street is the same, unless you are launching hard at 4k it will just grab and go. I was looking for a good tire for the price between the v12 and the pss and the sport comp2 is just that. I had nth KDW2's and Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas as well on my old Z and these school them hard. For track work I can't comment, but for the street you would have to do some very unsafe stupid stuff to reach these tires limits.

if you researched on various types of tire websites you would be able to educate yourself on things like COMPOUND NUMBER. That has a lot to do with how much mileage you will get out of it. The lower the number the softer the tire and obiviously the higher the number the harder the compound. I suggest you take some time to educate yourself on what type of tires are available for your car, consider your driving characteristics and monitor your psi's and treadwear pattern. I have almost 30k out of my re760 fronts, rears I got 23k out of because I like powering through corners.

Here's my personal review after having these on for three days including rainy weather.
First thing I noticed was vague steering. Steering wheel feels much lighter. Not accustomed to it yet so I'm over reacting a tad. They track very well but due to less road feel you really need to concentrate just a bit more to stay straight. They added a feeling of softness that I wasn't expecting. They absorb imperfections well but you still feel it in the chassis. They are noisy at speeds around 37mph and below. I mean, much louder than the oem yokes. Handling through turns. Took my first major hard left today after some good break in time. Very confident feeling. Not a squeal. No complaints. No issues. Felt rather glued. But navigating that turn with less road feel is just a little odd. Rain... Didn't notice any issues whatsoever. They were still really new at that time so I didn't try to get on em too much. But they never let loose or hydroplaned. The rim protector is almost nonexistent. I kinda liked having more rubber there. But I don't run my wheels over curbs so it shouldn't be a problem. Just looks a little funny. The tires being equal size to oem are rather meaty. I'm going to put them through the paces this weekend and I'll follow up with a "spirited" driving review to more appropriately describe the effectiveness of these tires. |
I have a set of Comp 2s on my car and I love them so far. I have about 2,500 hard miles on them so far and they look new. Two days after they went on the car I did a track weekend at Sebring and they have amazing grip. The Monday after that track weekend the Stillen Supercharger was installed so I've been harder on them than I typically would and so far I'm thrilled with the performance and how well they are holding up.

Just put on a set of S04 pole positions two weeks ago. The guy at America Tire did not like the Comp 2. It seems like you are trying to get the most miles out of a tire. Fact is all these tires were not designed to go many miles. Got 18k out of the rears and the fronts were fine. I replaced all 4 so I didn't have two different tires on vehicle. Wife's car. She has notice the car rides better, quieter, and handles better.
Glad we went with the Pole Positions. Here in So Cal we have very little rain. Winter is non existent. It is a sports car and sports car tires were not designed to be quiet or last long. If I can get two years out of staggered set on sports package, I'm good with that. |
My 3,000 mile review
Most temps were below 70 degrees and being summer tires that will play into this. Take it with a grain of salt.
Ride quality. Much better than OEM. Softer ride but the accuracy in steering response is still there. Road feel is softened a bit but not horrible. Road noise. Horrible. You think OEM is bad? Stay away from these. Under 42 mph you will have crazy cabin noise. It is ridiculous at 23-32 mph. Dry traction. Very good once you get going. Easy to break the tires loose going forward. Lateral grip under acceleration is awesome. They do give you some warning and recover easily if you break loose. They like to spin (on dry road) in a forward motion, as in, they don't really kick out or get to squirrely on you. Big plus in my book. They can still come loose even at highway speeds when making evasive moves under heavy throttle. But again. They mostly just spin without causing your back end to kick out. Wet traction. Don't bother and good luck. These are rated as scoring very well under wet road conditions. I say BS. Never tracked with these but given their lateral capabilities paired with hot temps they should perform very well (as also stated by another poster above). If I were to score these out of 10 stars... I'd give them 5.5. If it were warmer out and they had an equal chance to be judged under better conditions performed relative to those conditions, probably 6.5 stars. Primary fault is loss of road feel, soft sidewall, lack of decent rim protector, and easily breaking loose on most surfaces. Given their pattern and compund this shouldn't be a problem. I would personally go back to OEM over these or at least upgrade to the RE050A or RE-11 tires. Even in 18" because they seem to be the best tire for this car. PSS also have mixed reviews but everyone lauds the RE series so that is always going to be a safe bet. Hope this helps some of you in your tire purchase decisions. Bottom line... cool climates with rain = no joy. |

Thanks. That influenced my decision a lot. Guess i'm going with some pole positions. I'm surprised to hear they are so crappy in the wet. |
