Tire noise from the cold weather
another bug....
noticed last night that at full lock (not sitting against the stop, to the stop, and back off a slight amount) that the front end binds somewhere.... it feels like my 4x4 dune buggy with a lock front end.... or simliar to over extending a cv joing. you can feel it through the wheel and floor, almost like the outside tire is skipping. i find this very odd since my car is lowered about 1", nothing crazy. now, its not that its a huge bother, but i am very anal and do not like "not knowing" what it is. nothing is rubbing i can visually see, and unfortunately no not have the ability to see under the car with the front weighted down (lift ect) to peek around. also, ive noticed a clunk in the rear end. here is what it is

Mine scrubs near lock and it's at stock height. It was kind of a surprise, but the way I see it, I am willing to live with some scrubbing for the (great) turning radius.
I've done some suspension design and it is basically a huge pile of tradeoffs. I figure they needed to sacrifice correct turn toe for some other handling characteristic, but maybe I'm just being naive.

Tire Dragging on Sharp Turns U-Turns
A few weeks ago I noticed that when making a sharp turn (with the steering wheel turned all the way in either direction) you can hear a tire or two dragging on the ground. I figure that it's a result of the 370z having such a tight turning radius. I brought it to the dealership and they said it was normal, but has anyone else experienced this?

Are you holding the steering wheel at full lock? If so, it might be the pump making noise, not the tires. If you are, don't. It is very bad for the pump.

Sounds like the LSD, if you have one (ie sport package). Have you modified the differential (new internals, new oil, etc.)? I have a 350 so not sure if 370 stock diff will drag the inside on tight turns. Perhaps understeer if you are carrying too much speed. ^+1 don't use full lock when turning.

In cold weather, the front wheels/chassis will flex and skip on sharp turns at slow speeds.
I read about it here, then a couple nights later I experienced it. Had I not read about it here, I'd have thought "WTF!" |

if i'm stopped and have the wheel turned nearly all the way in either direction and give the car a little too much gas i get the dragging feel in the wheel an the sound. feels/sounds more like the front wheels than the rear.

I also started to experience this tire dragging almost like the front tires are losing traction when the weather turned cold but once the car has moved like 150 feet it stops. I think its just the cold..

Only happened to me when it was cold outside. After a very short distance, it goes away. Whatever it is.
