I run 20x10 and 20x12's on mine with falkens. Great traction in the wet and they seem to last.

As far as driving in heavy rain... No tires will save you if you're going too fast. I hydroplane regularly, but I always drive extra slow in bad weather so when I do hit a puddle, the car regains control relatively quickly. It's friggen scary sometimes.
