Sad Day To Be Me

Last night while taking a sharp left turn coming out of my school, my car decided to rub up against the median...:shakes head:

Front driver side rim is bent outwards with curb rash and rear driver side has a curb rash and a flat tire...Hopefully getting the rims repaired soon so I'll try to post updates

6MT 11-14-2012 04:57 PM

mmm.... tough luck.

Z-Girl 12 11-14-2012 05:21 PM

Ouch!

dP3NGU1N 11-14-2012 05:32 PM

Ouch, hope you can get it repaired! Let us know how it goes!

Jasonle 11-14-2012 05:33 PM

That sucks!

I hate it when my car decides to rub up against things. :shakes head:

Hopefully you can get the wheels repaired without much hassle.

Damn, that sucks. Remind me of my friend who loves to turn extremely close to the curb. Lucky he has an SUV though

Ouch! Don't let your car make anymore decisions. ;)

post up the estimated costs.... im thinking its probably better if you purchase a set of wheels vs the cost of repairing one...

Chuck33079 11-15-2012 02:37 PM

Any damage to the suspension, or did you just take out the wheels? Double check everything when you've got the wheels off.

Csquared 11-15-2012 09:57 PM

Doenst' look too bad, after a crazy typhoon in hk I ran over a giant pot hole at around 40 mph. Bent my wheels in 2 places. fixed it up for around 100 USD. didn't repaint it though.

So as I said before, my Driver's side rear had a hole punctured into the sidewall of it so I put on my spare and went and got a new tire for it today. I talked to the manager of the tire shop I went to and told him that I was looking at a shop down new San Diego that could hopefully repair and possibly re-powdercoat my wheels if needed, to my surprise he has a buddy that does that and runs his business through this tire shop and so he made an appointment for him to come and look at the wheels in the morning to do an estimate on it, as for now my car is in the garage up on stands and is waiting for something to happen. Will post updates

These are my stock 19" Rays and the dealership are pretty pricey, plus I would have to have them both powder coated again which somewhat seems like more of a hassle. I've looked on the forum and found a couple used sets but they're still listed pretty high so I'm gonna see what it costs for the repair and then hopefully make a smart decision.
I'll post estimates probably tomorrow

When it first happened, the car was pulling to the left so I was obviously thinking that I broke something more than my wheel. But today after having the flat tire replaced and re-balanced, the car seemed to ride "pretty straight". Now of course I'm going to take it to get a better inspection because the place that I went to today doesn't do inspections or alignments like that plus I wanted to wait until I get the bent rim straightened out, re-balanced, and re-mounted before doing alignment and inspections on it so I could hopefully knock it all out in one trip.

Yeah when I went out and inspected it the next morning I realized that it wasn't as bad as I had thought but of course I thought that I had totaled my car ;) The wheel that was bent held air perfectly and if it hadn't been for the rear wheel getting a hole in the sidewall, the car would have probably driven the same as before. In theory. But I'm just hoping that this doesn't set me back too much I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

homeryansta 11-15-2012 10:58 PM

to each their own, but those wheels are kinda oogly anyways. Time for an upgrade?

Grindkiezer 11-15-2012 11:02 PM

Oh trust me if I had the money I would be putting it towards some Volks TE37, but right now just isn't feasible. Eventually sure but for now I'm stuck with my oogly stock wheels

Grindkiezer 11-16-2012 10:21 AM

Update: Rear Driver side wheel will cost about $170 to reshape and re-powder coat, My Front Driver side wheel with the bend is NOT REPAIRABLE :crying: So the guy who would be doing the repair is going to search for a "new" rim and then give me another estimate for the cost of the wheel plus the cost ro powder coat it.

I've searched the forum for a near perfect condition whel for a decent price but I know that those two words don't belong in the same sentence :shakes head:

I think you're talking about his spare. He has sport rims powdercoated black...

mbowler 11-16-2012 07:27 PM

I had a similar situation recently. Bought a refinished/reman wheel from "the wheelership". It was $520 delivered. Looks perfect.

If you hit the rear wheel against the curb with significant force at all you will want to verify the lower control arm isn't bent. They are aluminum. Mine was bent.

Grindkiezer 11-16-2012 09:49 PM

I'm going tomorrow to order a new wheel from the dealership, this is my last resort because although people are selling wheels online, no one wants to part way with just one. I'll ask if they have any refinished wheels, but we'll see. It's about $1,000 with tax and then I have to get a new tire ~$300 and then get it powder coated ~$100-150.

S#!+

blueranger 11-17-2012 11:08 AM

Sorry to hear... I've been in your shoes and it is not a good feeling.

Good Luck!

Mikes350z 11-17-2012 12:14 PM

if its $1,000 for a new one from dealer without tire, why not buy someones used set with tires and have three extra rims/tires that you could sell individually over time or hold on too?

:twocents:

Yeah I thought about that but although I may save some money I think it would be somewhat difficult to find a buyer for just 3 wheels unless someone wants to buy one like I was looking for. Too much of a hassle, and a lot of the people in this forum that were selling for a good price usually wanted local pick ups but either way I went this morning and payed the $956 or whatever it was for the wheel. It will take 2-3 days to get here and then I'm going to have it sent off to get powder coated then have a new tire installed and rebalanced so when I get home from my trip next week my car will be ready to go

to each his own I suppose, I can understand your thoughts on the hassle however of dealing with it all. Been there a few times myself with random things on the car.. Good luck and hope she is up and running soon for you.

Grindkiezer 11-30-2012 01:51 PM

Update: I got my car back yesterday! Or well I got 2 of my wheels back a long with my old "totaled" rim and got to finally put them back on my car last night. My car has been in my garage for almost 2 weeks up on jack stands and last night I put an end to that  during the time that my wheels were off, I got my hands on some Ichiba wheel spacers..... 20mm up front and 25mm in the rear. I don't know why since I just got curb rash :p But regardless I love them. They aren't very noticable unless you compare them to a before shot of them or to another z without them but I still have plenty of room around my car and in the wheel wells that I'm thinking about getting some swift springs, but we'll see.

:driving:
