Michelin Pilot Super Sport review and pics... (265/40/19 and 295/35/19)

So, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on these sizes, I was debating on getting another set of wheels for the track but decided to get these beefier michelins and use them for road and track. The reviews were excellnt and the new M5 comes with these tires, so they must be good.

I asked around for this set up and its very uncommon. Actually I think only BF goodrich and michelin makes these sizes (rear). Im surprissed i couldnt find anyone with these sizes to be honest. most people go with the lower profiles 265/35, 305/30.

LOOKS: I love the way the car looks now, looks meaner and just better for my taste. ill post pics below

FEEL: I had the stock sport package tires with plenty of thread, they wer a little harsh but mostly loud as S****t on some surfaces. With these the steering wheel feels smoother by alot and the road noise is much much lower.

WEIGHT: according to tirerack these tires are the same weight as the stock bridgestones. Im guessing the car will loose some acceleration since they are taller and there is more rubber on the ground.

PERFORMANCE: I havent taken them to the track yet, I will in about 4 weeks. Anyways the difference betwee these and the stock bridgestones is night and day. its hard to even make the rear tires brake loose when coming our of a slow speed turn whereas it was fairly easy to do with stock tires. Ive taken the car around the same twisty roads and the grip reminds me of the Re-11;s i had on my previous car.

I still have stock suspension and stock sway bars, I want to go aftermarket after couple of track days... probably KW and stillen or whiteline sways (any recommendations?). however with the michelin PSS tires (at least with these sizes) the understeer is reduced considerably and the forgiveness these tires have makes me feel almost too confident on the road jeje.

As far as launching the car form a full stop... the grip is great even when they are cold.

Anyways here are some pics I took with my phone and edited them a lil bit.

I did not want to go with such a meaty tire so I has to run 255/295

Juice14 09-22-2012 01:23 AM

I went to the track today, did about 3/4 of a tank. I dont even know what to say, honestly these tyres are waaaay more than i expected. The forgiveness is excellent... amazingly these tyres have soft sidewall but the response is great (have no idea how) Im on stock suspension and I can tell you this is probably the best street tyre outthere by far. Braking, cornering, ultimate grip, everything about this tyre is great. I tried 38psi when hot and went down from there, I ended up running 33psi when hot all around. This set up and sizes takes away almost every bit of understeer on this car. Im completly stock (only oil cooler and pads)

I want to say these tyres should be in the Extreme performance category. Maybe they r not because treadwear is 300.

Hi Juice, any you put any spacers in the rear.?Will it 'rub' the fenders during cornering.?

DLSTR 09-22-2012 07:32 AM

I will never ever not have these on my Z! The best overall performance tire on the market.

They are pretty meaty compare to my re11. Excellence choice of tires though !!

Yes i have 12mm front and 15mm rear and there is no rubbing at all. the suspension can bottom out and you wont rub

They are great for sure, I was not expecting that much grip at all, i left the track and still wanted to go back to confirm if it was just my mind playing games. but everyone who rode with me feels the same way

Your car looks faster just being parked.

I want this exact setup, my only concern getting the PSS' right now is having them in PA during the winter... :ugh2:

Cold weather traction

I've had my 275/325 set-up out in 35deg temps. Flying on RT70. Got to take it easy with the loud pedal tho. :)

Looks good juice. I like the meatier look too. would these still fit ok without the spacers. I figure the rear would be ok but what about the front.
