More Grip, Less Fun?
Hey there !
I'm about to buy new tires for my 370Z and looked at the PSS. They look awesome and all, but... with soooo much grip I wonder if it might take the fun out of the driving experience? I mean I love to drift it around at low speed from time to time, and with the stock potenza its kind of easy to do. Will I have to go at 100 mph in the corners to be able to drift a litle? :happydance: |
Somewhat...look for a spare set of wheels to keep lower rated tires on them for weekend fun!
|
They might make it more difficult to break free, but that just means you can enjoy different ways of seeing how well they handle. You'll get a better reaction from them.
Fun in other ways. And yeah, a different set of wheels/tires for burning is a good idea. That way you're not wasting the expensive PSS' lol |
I drive for pinks, not for the stupid thrill of showboating.
Sticky rubber will get me across the finish line seconds faster than drifting. PSS will let me take home the 10Gs. That's all that matters. Ask any racer.. any real racer. |
You can brake traction with any tires -- the question is do you want it to be predictable?
|
A spare set could be something but I don't really burn them, I just go crazy on the corners sometimes :icon14:

Guess ill have to try it out and see how I like the PSS

i find the pss breaks loose at about 20-30 mph more than the potenzas did.

You tell me I would have to go at 50+ for the rear to slide on that same spot? At 30 mph its quite easy to get back if you make a mistake, but at 60 mph it can be another story, especially on the street (I don't go on the race tracks). |
yep - i try not to break them loose.. i let off a bit when i hear the telltale chirps..
also - i used to take the cloverleaf on/off-ramps at maybe 35-40 now easy 60... (also - that's when they're new... they chirp a little more with 11k on them) |
I have to admit, I guess thats one thing I like about the current tires...being able to break them loose a bit at low speed
Once I go RE-11 or PSS I guess that goes away a bit...but at the end of the day, I want to do Time Attack too and it will be better for that. |
It took some significant adjustment when I got my RE-11s installed because the grip levels are so much greater. The car just grips with no signs of reaching it's limits when the RE050s would have given out long ago, and does so without drama. Also, my favorite thing about the RE-11s is that although the grip envelope is so much higher, they are still very progressive.
However unless I'm going through the canyons in the early morning when no one's around, the car's new limits are found at speeds that definitely mean a mistake will cost you much more at those higher speeds. |

I have stock 18s for drift and 20's with BF Goodrich 285 in the rears for everyday use. I try to not go crazy with the $300 20's but sometimes i cant help myself! :happydance: |
