Anyone with experience on the RE970AS?
Hey guys,
I was about to order some tires today, but I stopped short, since I truly haven't made up my mind on which tires. I originally planned on getting Potenza S-04 Pole Positions in 265/285 widths, but, having driven almost 14k miles this year alone, I feel like I will be pouring money into a tire that will last slightly better than my stock RE050A's. My friend has a 300ZX TT with these Potenza RE970AS tires, and compared to his old RE760s, they hook better in the straight line and have a sharper turn in feel. For the RE970AS', the sizes I chose were kind of weird - 255/40/R19 and 295/35/R19, but they are still within +/- 3% of the original overall diameter. Price wise, for all 4 out the door, they are within 50 dollars. This makes these all seasons very expensive in their class, but if they last a long time, worth it. (I could get the rears in the stock size of 275/35/R19, but I think if I go for the 295, the width will make up for the harder compound) Do you guys have any input on either the S-04 or the RE970AS? I know all season tires are not a popular choice for many of you guys, but if these RE970AS' are as grippy and stiff as the stocks, I'll be damn happy. I'm not looking for extremes like the RE-11 or anything like that.

There's always going to be a compromise with all-seasons. For the most part, you'll be fine with the re970as's for normal daily driving. I would also look into the Ventus V12's.

I definitely looked into the v12's, but they seem like they just have a soft sidewall, and wear quickly. I figure the all seasons will be soft as well, but hopefully last a long time.

Not that it's even remotely a sporty car but I run the RE960AS's on my Scion tC. From what I can tell the 970's are just a newer version of the 960's. Gotta say so far I'm very happy with the 960's on my tC. Performance and longevity has been great. There also fairly decent in light snow fwiw.

In any case, I did go ahead and take the plunge on the RE970AS'es, in sizes of 255/40/R19 and 295/30/R19. I still feel like it's a weird size combination, but I really wanted to plus size from stock sizes, and this was the closest you can get. I'll be having them delivered and installed on Thursday/Friday, and I will post a seperate thread with an initial review, and I'll continue to post back on it for anyone else interested in these. I got the order done at Costco, who I might add priced LESS than Tire Rack after shipping, and also came with a coupon where if you buy 4 Bridgestone tires, you get $70 off the tires, and $30 off of their comprehensive install/balance/road hazard thing. Just something to note if anyone is looking to grab some tires soon! I'll note something though: the price came out to 50 dollars more than Potenza S-04 PP in sizes of 265/285 F/R out the door. If the RE970AS'es indeed do have good traction, at least on par or better than the RE050A's, and long tread life, I will consider them money very well spent. There is no perfect tire, haha. Florida is too flat for insane spirited driving anyway. However, if they are bad, I'll definitely note that and steer clear from All Seasons ever again on this car.
