Replacing single rear tire, must I shave?
Got a chunk of my sidewall blown off on one of my rears. My other tire is good with plenty of tread left, but I was wondering if there was any OEM recommendation as to how much the rear tires' tread can differ by.
E.g. from Tire Rack: Quote:

It is best that they match closely to avoid working the limited slip too much, if you have the sport package.

Yes, I have the sport package. I've got 7/32 left on one tire, my mechanic tells me a difference 3/32 and above would probably cause issues. Oh well, time to try out a new set of rears. I have V12's and I'm not impressed. Time to try the RE-11's.

Tire Rack will shave it for you, or at least they used to do that, if you don't want to buy two new tires.
Chances are your fronts will last much longer than your rears anyway, though, even if you don't drive aggressively. |
tirerack can shave tire, i think. at least they use to have that service..

I don't know what that has to do with us, but people say that. :p |

They still do it, but only in Indiana and one other warehouse. I just decided to get a new set of rears. Didn't want to wait an extra day for them to shave it and I kinda wanted to try different tires anyways.
