Default Tire shop jacked up my rim need advice

Not sure if this has ever happened to anyone, Im sure it has but I got a pretty big size bolt in my tire. I took the tire off and had my friend run me into a local tire shop. My normal place that I go Discount Tires is closed today so I took it to the only place that was open on sunday. They fixed the hole no problem and gave me back my tire. When I got home I was placing my rim back on and noticed my rims could use a little cleaning. Giving it a light wipe down i noticed a pretty nice gouge in my rim. My rims are Volk GTS. What do you guys think i should do about it? Having these rims buffed out never really makes them look the same. Should I try and have the tire shop buy me a new rim?

Same thing happened to me at Discount Tire. They chipped off a piece of powder coat off my Nismo wheels. Manager offered to have them sent off to get powder coated. I would go back tomorrow and speak with the manager/owner and see what they can do for you.

same thing happened to happytheman, he went to tire kingdom and they scratched his wheels all to hell. He went straight to the manager and made them pay to have the wheels refinished. Talk to the manager as soon as possible, the longer you wait the easier it is for him to say "you've had them for a week, you did that yourself since the time we gave your wheels back".

Absolutely make them pay for a new one. Repairing something that bad would be tough if not impossible.
I'd be up there when they opened the doors tomorrow if they are already closed today.

Wow that sucks. I just had a flat tire last Friday 7/27/2012 and went to Discount Tires. After everything was done I found that my base rims were all scratched up when they removed the lugs. They offered to get it refinish or touch up but they would need my wheel for a couple of days. I told them that I wouldn't be able to do that because I need to get to work and this is my only car. So for now I just took up on the touch up which doesn't take long at all they say.

I thought Discount Tires is a reputable shop but from the experiences you are getting, I have doubts about this place now.

Thanks for the advice so fare. Normally I do take my wheels to Discount Tires. When ever I take them in the assiant manager is the only one that will touch my rims. He doesnt want to take the chance the something will happen to them as he knows how much they cost. I wish I would have waited until tomorrow when they open up. The place that messed them up was goodyear tire. Also its really not fair to say that any place is bad. Its just the tech that worked on them. So I blame the idiot mech not the company. I am going to try and get them to buy me a new one. I do feel bad as they fixed it for free. But part of me is wondering if they is why they did it for free because they knew they messed it up.

sorry to see. check around for wheel repair shops and have the shop pay for the damage. document everything. since you didnt find the damage until later, the shop might deny they did it.

Default Insurance

I work for an Insurance Company; thus I see this all the time. Any shop will carry garage-keepers liability insurance for their business. It covers incidents just like this. Turn it in to the Manager ASAP and do not hesitate. Take some photos of the damage to document the incident and request that they turn it in to their insurance carrier. It will cost you nothing.

Similar issue happened to me in May the day after I got my new wheels, the shop cut me a check through their insurrance for a set of 4 brand new wheels (had to agrue with them for a bit). That said i feel like i made a deal out of it, since i still plan on keeping or selling my old set. Paid $3,600, got a check from the installer for $3,600 and can hopefully sell the set for $2,000

I had my Volk LE37 chipped like that while getting work at Nissan, they gave me like 300 bucks to get it fixed.

I also had my wifes Sonata go in for new tires and they scratched her wheels so i made them buy us 2 new wheels.

So YES demand they pay for it, go for a new wheel but settle for nothing less then them paying you the money to get it fixed

I’ve had issues like this in the past. Yup you have to go to the same place that did the mistake and it needs to be addressed. Also in the future make it a habit to let them know to watch out for your rims that there dent and curb rash free no matter how anal it may sound. Better safe than sorry.

I just had two wheels scratched up at Firestone when they put on my RE11's! It was not this bad, but they did scratch the wheel and it shows black underneath. They offered some cash off my tire bill and I accepted that. Not worth getting mine fixed. But in the OP's case they definately need to fix that. It will require filler and sanding and respraying the silver paint. They might have to feather it in, or paint the whole wheel (I doubt they will do that).

I am under the believe now since this has been happeing to me and others that this must be a normal thing? Damage and scratch wheels when installing tires? I guess most people do not care.

I would demand some monetary compensation at the least!

They are Volks and you are wondering if you should go after them for gouging your wheel?
