color/paint code for OEM wheels?
 

Does anyone know or know where to find the color code for the stock sport wheels? I'm a retard and already curbed one and want to get it repaired. I already have a guy that fixed my 350z wheels, but this car is so new i'm worried he won't have the color code for them.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey, if you find this out, tell me. I was told that the color/paint is Rays exclusive and they wont give it out, and anyone else attempting to fix it will only be a best attempt at getting them to match as close as possible...

I don't think there is a color code for these wheels. The guy that repaired my 350 wheels said it was Nissans version of hyper silver. I did find a can of paint at Pep Boys that was a very close match. It's called : Dupli-Color, Import Auto Spray. The color was "Platinum (M)" (typically when you think of platinum, you think of a darker grey, like our PG. This color silver however was very close to the wheel color)

so there really is no actual color code for the wheels? Has anyone had them repaired before (370z wheels or 350z rays wheels)?

I had my 06 touring wheels repaired and they looked spot on, but they weren't rays wheels...

I feel like they aren't rays exclusive because the 2006+ 350z wheels were the same color and weren't made by rays (correct me if I'm wrong)... Also I think the base 370z wheels are the same color too (once again, correct me if I'm wrong).

I think the guy who fixed my 350 wheels said something about hyper silver too... Anyone else out there have input or wisdom!

I think this is correct, Rays made the 370 wheels, Nissan picked tha color, same as the '06 forward color.

Hyper silver is a lead based metallic silver paint over a black base coat. The lead based paint is not legal for sale in the US because of its toxicity. If you get a duplicolor, it won't be exactly the same as hyper silver because you're not laying down the black base coat first. (I'm not sure if the 370z's wheels are hypersilver to begin with)

The way silver wheels are made is either 1) silver powdercoat or 2) silver paint with clear powdercoat over the top. Paint without a protective coating is not very durable. If you youtube "rays forged wheels" there's a video that shows how they forge, heat cure and powder coat. Any type of touch up paint will just covering be up the marks that have went through the thick protective coating. The only way to feally "fix" it is through "wheel refinishing", where they strip the coating, sand blast the wheel, repaint it and apply new clear coat. Lot's of companies offer this and will run $200-250 a wheel.

Yep, my repair guy stated the same, metallic silver over a black base coat. I will say this, he was very good at duplicating the finish on the repairs he did for me on my 2006 350. If I didn't point it out to people, they didn't notice. Even pointing out the repair, you really couldn't see it. It is one of the harder colors to repair though.

Thanks guys. I guess I have no choice though. I'm debating just having the wheels painted a completely different color like a metallic gunmetal or something.

Whoah... Big steps for a small problem? How many wheels are
damaged? How severe? If small, just use touch up paint and deal with it. if one wheel is totally trashed, get a new one from eBay or dealer. If multiple are mildly damaged, powdercoat the wheels in a new color of your liking. If severe and multiple wheels, get some aftermarket wheels to your liking and eBay the undamaged ones.

one is knicked.. about 1/3 of an inch. Another one has about 3-4 inches of curb rash.

that's all. I was saying that because it's a flat rate to repaint them completely or have them fixed.

getting a new wheel from the dealer is robbery

You could get them powdercoated for around $70 a wheel including the stripping and sandblasting. You could do the touch up work with a file and sandpaper yourself or pay them to do that as well. It will probably be cheaper than repaint to hypersilver.
