metal "thing" in tire after service
 

So i picked up the Z today after the dealership had it. Got home and noticed this in my tire.

Tried calling service back but they are closed for the weekend. Think they should fix it? Can anyone tell what exactly it is? This is the drivers side rear tire.

Not sure what it is, but I had a box cutter in my driver side rear about a month ago.

They probably won't fix it without charging you. They'll say that you could have picked it up on the way home.

And by the looks of the tire it looks like its due to be replaced from the angle of the pic

A day after I drove off the lot I noticed a nail in my tire. Less than 18 hours after I got it. Called them up to have it filled in and they were going to do it for free. Turns out it was too close to the side wall to repair and by the looks of it yours is even closer than mine was. They said that it would cost me 375 to replace it. I told them straight up im not paying for it and they refused to budge (maintenance personal). Went to thr owner of the dealership, and told him that it could have happened during delivery. He marched straight in there an bitched at the maintenance personall and they comped it.

I would fight it and say that they did that. Who knows maybe you'll get off like I did.

Did the tire go flat? If not, I wouldn't be to concerned.

I would... that is a big chunk on old tires right near the sidewall.

Dealership probably won't replace/fix it because again unless they did tire maintenance, they aren't going to assume it was their fault. As others said, it is likely non-repairable anyhow...

Get some new tires.

It could have happened on the way home, and yes you need to buy new tires, and probably more than one...

I don't like dealer's , but from the pictures and your post, I would be prepared to buy new tires...

Rubber doesn't give a tire strength. One function of rubber is to keep air from leaking out. The belts are the strength of the tire. If they haven't been compromised and the tire doesn't leak, then why replace it?

Took it to a local place for an opinion. They pulled the tire off and patched it to get me by until I buy new tires. Unfortunately, the plasti-dip on my rims got a little messed up :/

not sure if serious^ :icon14: to some degree you are correct but the rubber/tread is the grip, ride and safety of the tire. thinking you can run one down to the belts every time to get the "most mileage" out of a set of tires is pure insanity

yea i highly doubt that happened at the dealership. that doesn't look like a tool or anything i've seen around a garage/shop.
