295/30r19 OK in the rear with 245/40r19 fronts?
I got a nail in my side wall on the rear tire that cant be repaired they say...I want to replace both rears as they are down to 40-50% anyway. I can get a really good deal on a slightly used set of 295/30r19 from a friend (bridgestone RE050a, same tire as stock sport wheels). Would I be ok running these in the rear with my 245/40r19's in the front (dont want to replace those as they are still 70+%). Reason im asking is because the overall diameter of the 295/30 will be about .7" smaller than the stock 275/35. If my front and rears are revolving at slightly different rates will that affect the vehicles operation in anyway?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated guys, especially if someone out there is already running this setup... Thanks phaddi_inc |

I'm definitely in the same boat as you. Stock sport wheels, thinking of running a slightly larger diameter.
Also, nails in the sidewall are indeed pretty much doomed. It damages a lot of the interior reinforcing and things like that. Sidewall is much weaker and is prone to a lot of shear forces during cornering. Front and rear revolutions per mile won't really be a big deal. Your fronts aren't linked to your rears, so if anything, your speedometer might run a little off (can't remember how our cars calculate speed).

Thanks for the reply, I figured the speedometer may be a slight issue (I thought I read somewhere something concerning the VDC with diff wheel diameters, but could have been another vehicle)...I may go ahead and mount them, if Im not happy I'll just cough up the cash for new front wheels, maybe 255/35
Thanks. |

My main concern was that now the front (245/40) will have .7" or so greater diameter than the 295/30's in the rear...Im hoping it wont be visual at all. |

I also think I read that you can't run 285 rears without slight rub. Spacers are required. I still have no idea if I'd want to think about running different camber, although it's not likely.

What was the final consensus on 305's in the rear?
Last search led me to mixed conclusions (i.e, rubs vs. perfectly fine)... Oh, for anyone who wants to see the effect on speedo -- Tire size calculator

I'm about to run the same rear size but with a 275/35 front. same diameter delta. not worried a bit. in theory the headlights will be a bit higher.
mine are specced at .6" difference, remember, only half that on a radius, not that substantial. I'm timid about lowering due to local streets and in and out of my parking garage, already tickle the black chin spoiler and the exit has a breakover that I clear now, but can't be by much

Since my rears have balded, I've been staring at RE11s, trying to find a solution that works. They apparently don't come in the stock sport package size, so I'm trying to see just how wide I can go with minimal investment.
If all I need are some spacers to go with extra wide rears (305/35R19) and widened fronts (275/40R19), then it sounds very attractive, so long as there's no insane amount or rub or whatever. I'm still running a stock suspension, and the only thing I'll end up doing in the near future is probably a set of tein springs for a mild drop. I don't want rub! Quote:
