Repair Tire and Replace Rears or Replace All?
I'm still on the stock tires. I have about 2/32" tread in the rear so those will definitely be replaced right away, but the fronts still have about 5/32".
One of the fronts have a small cut (~ 1.5" long, .75" deep) on the middle of the contact area. Is this worth getting repaired and just replacing the rears for now till the fronts wear down more or would you all replace all 4 on one go? Obviusly, I'm leaning towards replacing all 4 now, but it's less painful to drop $650 now than $1.3k at one time. |
i would not risk your car and life for saving 650.. just get the 4.

I had two patches done to mine within the first few months of owning the car. Never had any issues. The tire store that I use does a "permanent patch". After looking at the patch, I'm pretty sure the rest of the tire would go before the patch.
If you're planning on changing to a different brand of tire, definitely get all four. You'll have all kinds of problems if you don't. |
Replace all.

Replace all of them. The fronts are pretty much toast anyway. I'm driving on practically bald rears and 3/32s fronts. If I were to replace the rears now and wait on the fronts, I'd end up replacing them in 1000 miles. You might be able to get a small discount with doing all four.
Oh, and any professional patch job is pretty much new tire being added onto the existing tire. 4000 miles in, found two long roofing nails in the passenger side rear. Very close to damaging the actual wheel. Both were patched and I've never known any different. |
patched tire is fine for screw/nail punctures....even container pad lock pin puncture ive had (1/4" diameter pin :icon14: ) but not sure about a 1.5" x0.75" deep cut...
