285's vs 275's
I got my conti DW's yesterday and went with the 285's in back. It almost looks like these 285 conti's seem narrower, or should i say no wider looking than the Bridgestone 275's I had on there :( Kind of a drag, cause I was hoping for a wider look. Got em at Discount Tire, and as always......I checked the pressure this morning and 2 tires were at 33.3 lbs, one was at 35.4, and one was exactly 35! Amazes me how these guys cant get a simple thing like tire pressure right even when the tires are cold and just filled!
Anyway the tires seem to be nice, although with the pressure spot on now, I will get a better feel today! |
They are wider, but not by much.
Do the numbers here: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos |
If I'm not mistaken the 275 and 285 are millimeters? So its literally only one centimeter wider...

"Section Width Following the letter(s) that identify the type of vehicle and/or type of service for which the tire was designed, the three-digit numeric portion identifies the tire's "Section Width" (cross section) in millimeters. P225/50R16 91S The 225 indicates this tire is 225 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall when mounted and measured on a specified width wheel. This measurement is also referred to as the tire's section width." Therefore, 285mm - 275mm = 10mm = 1cm = 0.4in = just a little less than half an inch wider. Right? Or am I missing something? |

But that is fine, as the Nismo comes with this size tire and it's perfectly fine. |

I guess the width diff is minimal. They look good but wanted more ;)

Your actually better off getting 305's as they are closer in diameter to 275's! ;) Well -0.38 smaller anyways. lol

1010tires.com has a wheel calculator that will give you a bunch of useful info...
I unused to run a 275/30/20 on a 20x10 on my 2008 max with a 41+ offset... Fenders rolled and she used to sit nice... |
How much heavier are the 285 compare to the 275.?I heard it will 'blunt' the performance of our cars.
|
Can I run the 275 on the Nismo instead of the 285?
I am trading my sport for a Nismo, but I want to keep my new r-spec yokohama tires. |
10mm's :stirthepot:
|
I was thinking of doing the same when it came time to change my tires. I guess atleast a 295 is needed to really "notice"
If I get 3 piece Forged wheels as planned I guess thats when I'll go 305 in back sine the rimes will probably be 11" in back |

If you think the actual size of the tire in relation to what is stamped on the sidewall is the same from manufacturer to manufacturer... Sorry... That's not the case.
