Question on new tires...

It is my DD, with NO track use. I want to go 255 in the front and 295 in the rear... Good idea or bad?

I am looking at the HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO K110 for front and rear. Would these be good for me? Is there something with a better tread rating?

Basically the stock Yoko's are SHOT after 9500 miles...

You are sacrificing grip for better wear, just don't do anything stupid.

anyone have any input?

The aspet ratio IMO is a bit to low as well. Not enough sidewall. I'd personally be more comfortable with a 265/35/19 up front and a 305/30/19 out back. exact match for the front but wider would be a 275/35/19 fyi.

What is the aspect ratio with tires?

I won't even attemp the math but if you plug your stock sizes into a tire sizing calculator, they're online, I like the miata one. You'll see that the perfect match for a stock 245/40/19 (stock fronts) but wider is a 275/35/19 and even a 265/35 is a bit short on the sidewall and the 255's would be shorter still (but a 255/40 would be too tall). Same with the back, stock nismo size is 285/35/19, iirc the best rear would be a 325/30/19 wider but same size sidewall. Now that size is damn hard to find and quite frankly, the Z has too much understeer built in with the stock 30-40 mm stagger (245 fronts, and 285 rears) so that rear tire won't work.

I'm personally looking to go with 275/35/19 fronts with 285/35/19 rears next go around to try to get a more neutral handling car, assuming the front tires won't rub etc with my wheel offsets (I have aftermarket wheels).

Will going with the sizes I posted cause any problems? I mean what does the sidewall being shorter really affect?

no, no catastrophic issues, biggest ones off the top of my head would be: shorter sidewall so easier to bend a wheel if you hit a pothole etc, speedo will be off a bit, and the wheel gap will look worse unless you lower the car.

JAYNO20 05-12-2012 02:53 PM

Sidewall is going fro 3.9" to 3.5" is that a big difference?

JAYNO20 05-12-2012 04:21 PM

looks like I'm going to stick with stock size for now... anyone have any experience with the hankooks?

Casper370 05-12-2012 04:52 PM

I have the V12s in stock sport size and I hate them mostly due to lack of traction...like you the Z is my DD and I came from the stock Potenza which I thought were much better than the V12s...I got my V12s and I had a bad vibration of which I later came to find out that 2 of the tires were out of round and 1 was at limit of being out of round so of the 4 tires I got from hankook basically 3 were bad...I would recommend against getting the V12s...if your looking to not spend a lot on tires then I have read that people on here like the Continentals but I don't have any experience with them...my next set is either going to be the RE11s or the Michelin PSS...hope this helps

mwhit02 10-09-2012 09:06 PM

what about a 275/35/19 up front and 305/30/19 out back?

Any negative points about that setup?
