To pinstripe or not to pinstripe
I just ordered a set of 19" Forgestar F14's from DoubleDown and need to decide if pinstripes are in order.
Car is Pearl White, currently completely stock but will likely be lowered after the wheels get here cause I'll get tired of that fender gap. Wheels are Piano Black (just like DDM's track wheels), and I need to decide if I should add a white pinstripe or not. Picture of the Car http://www.the370z.com/members/carav...e3127-0005.jpg Picture of the Wheels: http://www.modbargains.com/images/Pr...blackfront.jpg and best pic I could find of the black w/ white pinstripes: http://www.forgestar.com/blog/pics/b8a44.jpg |
I think "brighter" colors, like red, are much more obvious. Not that Im suggesting red or anything, I just think white is too subdued really, for the stripe...
|
i dont think so. i only think a stripe looks OK on a flat black wheel. i am going to be purchasing the gunmetal, def no stripe. i hope you are getting 19x10 and 19x11!!

I voted no pinstripe. IMO that would ruin a very attractive wheel.
|
i think it looks good if it was like an off white....not too bright.
I voted to pin stripe it |
the white looks great. do a white one for a change.. red is way to common
|
I voted No Pin Stripe ... I think the wheels you picked look clean as is ... Nice choice !!!
|
i think a thinner off-white pin-stripe would be awesome,
that pic has a thick bright white pin-stripe, which takes too much attention away from the rim/spoke design. |
DO IT!! Not my taste but I say do it if that's what YOU like. That's all that really matters
|
I would have made the decision alone had I been able to choose. I love the way both look, and was just seeing what everyone else thought. KillerBee's yellow Z is the only reason I thought about the pinstripe, I think it looks really aggressive to have that pinstripe there. But at the same time, the plain piano black wheels have a beautiful finish and are just as aggressive looking on the car.
Keep the opinions coming, still on the fence so every little bit helps  |
The pinstripe does a great job of breaking up the all black between the wheel and tire.
|
I voted for no pinstripe. It'd look good if the stripe was another color (for example, blue or red or green or whatnot).
Someone also needs tire shine. ;) (Referring to Forgestar's picture) |
Most of the tire shine sprays and wipes will actually brown your tires over time. You're better off just cleaning up the tires with soap, water, and a good brush.

Well, at least not in the back! I have another positive point for no stripe...If I ever decide to sell the wheels it will be much easier to find a buyer considering they won't have to try and match the white stripe to their car. |
^^ yeah, that helps, or just colour match and paint on top of the pin stripe.
colour match as in the colour of the Z for the new owner...not the wheel colour |
i say no pinstripe, i think the rim looks better off without it.
you'll be driving the car, do what you think would look best. regardless of the outcome post pics of the outcome  |
well, the center caps are a nice bright silver, so that matches the white Z.
this is making like white Z's now.....urrrgghh |

Just another suggestion, have you considered having the entire lip of the wheel color matched to the car?

I posted in the official photoshop thread for someone handy with PS to photoshop the black wheels on a pearl white Z with and without the pinstripe to get a better idea, but not responses yet! |
its tasteful..a lot of exotics with nice rims do that often.
|
We have one R35 client who planned on acquiring a white GTR; he wanted something different so he went with the white pinstripe...on 24K gold plated Rays wheels.

Wheels are ordered, I'll post pictures when they are installed but don't ask which one I picked ;) |
WOW 0.0 gold plated rims...someone has a little too much $$$
|
Caravanshaka , get some vinyl pin stripe from an autozone or where ever......and tape it on the rim if you like how the pin stripe is...leave it on or get a real pin stripe on the rims
|
was hoping to have an update with pictures by now, but Forgestar has taken nearly 8 weeks now with my order...still no tracking number...
|
I feel your Pain.......
|
i say no stripe but if you're going to def color match it
|
8 weeks is long !!
should be done in 3-4 weeks |
Forgestar told Mike @ DDM to quote people 2-3 weeks for wheels. He's now quoting 2 months from experience if I recall...
|
I think the white pin stripe could be nice. My suggestion would be it in vinyl first to get an idea of what'll look like then if you like it, pull the trigger and put it on there for good.
|
I agree with trying it in vinyl first - at least it would be different with a white stripe, you don't really see wheels like that.

I mentioned that idea already on the previous page :) |
No pinstripe.
|
BTW, the pics from the photoshop thread. The angle isn't a great overall view of how they look on the car, but will give you an idea.

Too bright, it needs an off white to balance out.
|
well, the actual pinstripes are smaller than the photoshop, plus I have black headlights
|
Are you going to pin stripe it??
