Right now I'm in the process of figuring out a track setup for Auto-X. Not sure if I should buy some Vossen CV3/TE37's for daily and use stock 19's with some ToyoR888/Hoosiers or cheap Varrstoen's for track and stock 19's for daily. In the mean time I'm running 265 fronts and 285 rear RE-11's. 15mm spacer in the front and 20mm in the rear. These work okay for track but would like a more serious tire setup in the near future.

anybody notice effects on mileage? just curious on the measured impact more than "yes, wider= worse mileage"
just ordered some Conti DWS (what's right for me and my use) in 275/295 and they will go on next week after my Rays are PC Black stardust. went wider for a variety of reasons, but most of it for "percieved" added wheel protection margin....

Why would you get worse gas mileage from wider tires? I don't see any logic behind that reasoning. My mileage avg i think has gone slightly down, but that is only because I am actually running tires that are about an inch taller in diamater than stock so my speedometer says I am going slower than I am and therefore showing less miles traveled than actual. I know tires have different roll resistance but the mileage would be negligible. |

newly PC'd rays and fresh DWS rubber
275/35 in front, 295/30 in rear, no spacers but considering 15mm bolt ons one set at a time (not sure if they will clear in front)
My car is a driver and will see rain and maybe even snow (by accident) so I wanted an all around tire and was willing to forgo the benefits of a summer tread/compound. While I like the looks of a lowered ride, I can't for now..... too many approach angles and breakovers in my life, most notably my parking garage at the downtown condo.

How is this setup "285/35/19's ... up FRONT and 305/30/19's in the rear" for autocross on the stock nismo rims? I was thinking of going with a square set up of 285/35/19 on swift springs for autocross. Hummm...... Do you have any rubbing issues with 285/35/19 on the fronts? I pulled my 305s off and went back with 275s. Lighter, less noise and easier to get. I don't track my car as much as I'd like so there really isn't a reason to have them. I've had all sizes from 275-305 and my most favorite setup so far was the 285/35.
Great look with great wear/noise/traction. |
