Rear 275/35/19: Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 vs. Potenza RE760 Sport

So, last night I was checking tire pressure on the Z and made a discovery that my rear tires are getting bold. Then, instantly I realized that I have put almost 23,000 miles on them! (considering the fact I bought them used with 2000 miles). I got almost 25,000 out of RE050?

that's shocking. So, I may have a week or two remaining on these rear tires. So, I initially wanted to replace them with RE050A BUT their pricetag of $340+shipping (another $30 each) makes them quite expansive. I was looking on tirerack and saw a couple of similar tires for much less. One of them is Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 and the other is Bridgestone Potenza RE 760 sport. How are these tires rack up compared to RE050? (reviews look better) I DO want to keep the RE050 preciseness, handling and grip but don't feel like shelling out $400/per tire. If you have gone from RE050 to any of these tires, please let me know your input. I'm looking for your input on handling and wet tire performance. noise, thread life etc are not important.

Both of those tires are a step down in terms of performance, but I guess some of it depends on your intended use.

If you are mostly just commuting, they will be fine. If you plan to do any sort of performance driving, there are a variety of superior options (the pss is popular now), as the re050s aren't exactly a great bang for buck tire.

The v12s especially have a very soft sidewall and are notably imprecise.

Whatever you do, don't mix tires front to rear

Im also lookin at the Hankooksv12s in 245/285 but 255/305s recommended. Ill be running 9.5 and 11 rims. You seem knowledgeable. Any opinion? Wish I could give you help but dont have the Hankooks yet. But ive decided onthose to buy just size is in question.

with the right offset, you should have no problem with 255/305s & 9.5/11s

Just remember if you get other sizes that could throw off the speedo some and also lower the car. I want to get some 305's for the rear but worried about that. I have 285-35-18 now.

I want the 285s but the 11" wheels are actually measured at 12". I think thats just damm large

Try comparing it with a local vendor. I was able to get RE11s for about $50 cheaper at Costco. The savings were even more since I didn't have to include shipping.

I'm still on my stock re050a's and miles r same as u! little over 23,000 mi.! this includes normal driving plus two track days last year. i need to replace rears too. Sorry if my post was sidetracked n doesn't help ur choices. i heard hankook's have decent performance but softer sidewall!

bleh in need of new tires also. probably will be purchasing in about 2 days. i was thinking of getting the hankooks but wow those re760s got pretty good reviews. has anyone tried them out?

Thanks for the input. Yeah, that's what I'm seeing more. The RE760 seems to be softer than the re050a. I am seeing members buying PSS more and more. I'm tempted to buy it. but I think I'll hold off on that until next year or so as I will be commuting a lot on the Z still. V12 looks good and have decent review but yes the sidewall seem to be soft.

I think at this point, I may just get a pair of RE050a and call it a day (not mixing the tires front to rear). Next year or so, I'll probably get PSS all around.

Damn I hope I can get 25,000 miles out of my tires.

Anyway, I would say based on your needs and the comparison image you posted, the V12's would work ... I have not made it to the buying tires scenario yet so don't have any input for you there.

Put something on there though. And sooner rather than later.

I think they are a little softer than RE050a. Yes it'll last longer and probably more quiet but you also lose agility.

Hi. We are in a similar position AK. I popped a rear tire and since I have significant wear in the rear I would have to replace both stock rear tires which would cost $700-$800 depending on where you go and depending if you get a warranty. So I was looking at different prices at different places for tires.

I have had a set of V12's, and they were nice as a daily driver. Quiet, good grip in the rain. They felt really soft to me when new, but as the grease wore off and after a few heat cycles it actually felt like it got stiffer and actually was able to do some spirited driving in them. I didn't push them too much though. Then again, someone wrecked my 09 Z with those tires when they spun out =[.

I was very tempted to get the Michelin PSS as they have been getting rave reviews, but I also wanted to try the RE11, since that tire has a very good reputation with a long history. The PSS has been around for around a year? So it is still relatively new. I feel like the V12 was getting a lot of good reviews as well in the beginning but when I got them, there were a few negatives that weren't often mentioned. So I can wait until the end of this year or next year to get them.

So anyway, the point of my post is I am now getting the RE11 through Costco, which are costing me around $1250 including warranty and mounting/balncing. It is a great summer tire especially if you want to go canyon carving. Bad thing is that it is not a great daily tire and it has minimal tread life lol. Oh well, you only live once. In my opinion, I think you should be getting all new tires unless you are really tight on your budget.

I'll be getting the PSS on the next tire change after my RE11s wear out.

The RE11 is a lot better than the RE050a. I sold my original RE050a at 700 miles in order to get the RE11. I am on my second set. They have been very good, do expect a life of about 10-15K tops. They ride better and they are quieter than the RE050a, just very expensive. The Michelin last longer, but it doesn't offer the same grip level or comfort.

I don't know where you guys are getting the $1250 installed price from, but I am tempted to get another set at that price. I paid around $1200 when I bought it in 2009, $1350 last year. Just the price of the tire alone is past that this year. It sucks. I think I am done with them as I am planning to go sliks this year.
