Vossen Wheels Gunmetal Finish Durability : (
So Ive had my CV3s for 2 weeks now, they have the gunmetal finish. The rear wheels have a slightly stretched tire, nothing extreme. Im a very cautious driver, I stay away from debris and uneven roads, I haven't come in contact with anything such as a curb or pot hole.
Today I noticed more light chips in the gunmetal finish. One wheel has 5 the other has 3. They range in size from 1mm to 2mm. The chips are white on a gunmetal surface so they stand out. Its only been 2 weeks and I have this many, Im worried about how they are going to look in a couple months! For $500+ a wheel Id of thought the finish would be far more durable. Im sure if these were a brushed aluminum wheel these chips wouldnt even be an issue. Theres no metal damage, just surface damage. Has anyone with any other type of gunmetal finished Vossen had this problem? The wheels look awesome and get many compliments but Im very concerned and foresee having to get these wheels refinished before summer even starts. What material is use for the gunmetal finish? Paint? Powdercoat? I had flat black powdercoated wheels on my last Z and never once had a issue with the finish coming off and the wheels were on my previous car for 20000 miles.... Heres a few pictures I took tonight, theres a few more but they werent visible in the pictures... http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...41300531_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...46185582_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...86101962_n.jpg |

In for updates and pics...
I wonder if they would be covered under the 5 year warranty? |
I hate to say it but I'm not surprised.
I closely examined several of their wheels in a show display and was disappointed at the quality |
Yah, that sucks. Have them powdercoated by Mike. :D

Pictures posted.... :shakes head:

Mind all of you that Im not bashing Vossen. Ive wanted this wheels since they were introduced. I waited months to order and 2 weeks to actually receive the wheels. They look amazing but Im so disappointed that I have to deal with this.
I know its likely that I wouldnt be faced with this issue if I had a much wider tire but as mentioned this is NOT an aggressive stretch and it was the tire size recommended by both Vossen and the seller. And Im sure we've all seen the pictures and videos Vossen uses to promote their product, a majority of the representing cars are using even more aggressively stretched tires then I am. I would just think that a wheel coating, whether paint or powdercoat, would be especially durable considering the elements it can be subjected too. Based on reading, research and what Ive seen I thought these would be a high quality wheel. In the past Ive had two set of Axis wheels on a Z and an IS300 for 20,000 plus miles and never had an issue with the wheel or finish quality. I would say Axis is a good brand but no wheres near a top quality item... |
Awe man, that sucks. :shakes head:

that sucks, I wonder what type of product they use for coating them, powder or paint?

Those nicks are pretty normal for a daily driven car with satin-finish wheels.
Vossen probably won't cover you. |

I'm not making an excuse for Vossens quality, just saying it happens. |
I expected it to happen here and there over time but not so many is such short amount of time
|
Sorry this happened so soon... Great looking wheels though! I hope this can get fixed. Powder coating is definitely my choice over paint! Good Luck!
|
It just sucks that the OP needs to repaint or powder coat 2 week old rims...
|
Exactly ^
Another couple hundred bucks to fix a problem that shouldn't exist ......so soon. |
If you want we can send this issue to Vossen, the chips are coming from your stretched tires which are exposing that curved parts to a ton of rocks. Let me know we will be more than happy to submit and see what they say.
|
If you could that's be great
|
Email Mike@Vossenwheels.com about your issues. Vossen has a 5 year workmanship warranty, i think they can help you out man:)

Thank you sir
|
Are they just paint chips or did it remove part of the wheels?

I did have 255/30/20 and 265/30/20 on rear 10.5s before but I never experienced those marks. Are you thinking it has something to do with stretching tires? Currently with my 305s on the rears I still have not experienced anything similar.
|
Well according to others that seems to contribute to the issue but I still stand in my belief that a wheels finish, on face or lip, should be able to sustain some light road debris! Its not like I'm off roading in this car. I drive it maybe 200 miles a week.
|
Good luck with getting it fixed. I've had these same rims for about 6 months and 3000 miles with no issues so far.

Any updates?
