Fronts too narrow??
So at the suggestion of some of the board members I wanted to run 265/35/19 and 285/35/19 on my RE-11s that I plan on buying.
Costco has a really good price $1200 after install and tax for RE-11s but only has 245/40/19 for the front (has the rears). Will the wider rear and thinner front be too mismatched and cause steering issues or should it be ok? I always have the option of splitting the order, half from tire rack and half from Costco. |

Don't listen to them. Just throw 4 285 35 19 and call it a day. I had 265 last year and my fronts wore 20% quicker than the 285 because it was working so much harder. If you want to try, I will give you a pair of my 265/35/19 for free to try.
Btw $1200 for a set of 285 35 19 installed? If so, I am in!!!! I just bought some new wheels, they could use tires. Discount has it for $333 a piece! Last edited by cossie1600; 02-16-2012 at 07:31 PM. |

Really? I must have missed the memo given it's been on the car for 7000 miles....
Talk them into $1200 for 4 285 35 19, then jump on it as fast as you can. Discount tire has each tire for $333 before anything. I am going to check Costco out myself. By null at 2011-07-07 |

the bigger the gap in tire size, the more understeer prone you will be. ferrari runs setups like 235mm front and 335mm rear to offset their oversteer prone, rear engine mounted cars.

That's true but I've compared our tire widths to my friends' beemers, supras, and such. The 135i is a inline 6 with tt's and weighs the same as our cars. It comes with 215/245mm tires. Our car actually comes with very thick tires for the power it comes with. To the guys that run a 275/315mm N/A setup on our cars, I think it's too much and unbeneficial cause it's just too much tire and extra unsprung weight for 332bhp = slower car

I firmly believe unless you're boosted and running at least 500whp, you have no business running 315mm+ tires unless you just like the fat tire look or having more grip then you'll ever use

But back to OP's point, Amuse, as well as a seasoned tracker at a reputable shop called Performance Motorsports here runs his completely gutted nismo on a square 275mm setup on slicks
