New Tires Ordered

Just decided on a new set of tires.

Going with the Yokohama S. Drives. I got just over 30k on the stock RE050s. I should have them delivered within the next week and will post a review once I get them on and have done a couple test drives! :)

I'm definitely interested in your review. I was thinking I would probably go with those tires when I'm ready to change mine. What did you pay for the set?

$965 shipped with the road hazard option included from Discount Tire.

Not a bad price.

I thought so as well. I didn't have to get the road hazard option (that in itself was almost $100)...but better safe than sorry right?

30k on your stock tires! I think thats awesome! I know mine won't make 30k...

Haha...I try to get the most out of them (don't want to spend $1k all the time time). I figured since I'm starting to wear down the wear bars...it's time to change. What's weird is that the outer edges of my rear tires are way more worn than the insides.

GaleForce 01-29-2012 06:47 PM

Hmm... hard cornering? Lots of on/off ramps?

Nothing out of the ordinary. I'm not worried about it though. I'm stoked about my new tires though!!

Ooooooh, niiiiice!

joshs09slvrZ 02-03-2012 09:05 PM

Thanks! Getting them broken in will be lots of fun. :D

joshs09slvrZ 02-04-2012 03:28 PM

Well....I got them installed today. It was a PITA and turned into way more than I bargained for. The place I planned on taking it to said they couldn't install them when I got there. This was after I called them 3 separate times, told them what type of car I drove and what size tires I had.

So when I got there, he said they didn't have the right machine to install my tires on my car. They recommended that I go to this other tire shop down the road and they will take care of me. They took care of me all right...to the tune of $35 a tire. They also tried to push a couple other services on me (alignment and nitrogen). I agree that both are beneficial, but at this point, I was already annoyed and told them just to install the tires and that's it.

It took them a few hours and when I picked up the car, I found out that they nicked one of my rims. Oh well...what's done is done. The tires looks sweet and they ride awesome. It's going to take a few hundred miles to really break them in and be able to provide a legitimate review; so I'll post back in a couple of weeks.

How have you guys' rims turned out after getting a tire change?

They just suck at it...

I'm up in the Spring Hill area so that would have been a pretty good drive...but in hind site...I should have just done that. I tried touching up the spot...but I think it made it look worse so I just wiped the paint off.

I've been through it. I feel your pain. I had the same thing happen to me. Plus they could not balance the tires right. AP tires is worth the drive. They installed my springs too. FYI.

I should have said something before I drove off...but I doubt they would have done anything to resolve it. I also checked the weights they put on the front wheels and they are very tall weights...looks kind of odd.

If your wheels were damage free you should have told them and offered to let them inspect before starting work. Let them know you will hold them responsible for damage and they can decide if they want the risk. If damaged, hold them responsible for resolving. Any good tire shop should be able to take the time to do this carefully...

You're right...but I messed up by not having them go over it before. My fault for not doing that...but that still doesn't excuse the fact that they screwed up. Oh well though; nothing I can do about it now though.

Good reviews on tire rack, though the higher wear rating makes me wonder if they are as grippy as the stockers. I'll have to see if I can find a GRMS review.

They are a LOT lighter tho', so that is free torque.

Let us know how you like them

Well...I can't really give them a true review yet solely because I have to wear off the "new tire gel." I will say that I drove them today in the rain at cruise speed (55-65) and I felt solid and stuck to the road. So far they are handling great...but they need a few hundred miles before I'll really be able to test them out.

I was wondering about those I just ordered the Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 I was looking at the RE11's as well. But the Yokos seem to be a little better for my auto crossing goals. Plus my stock set of Re050s are loud on the road.

Don't know how you got 30k on the re050s mine are at 1/8 before the tread wear marker @12.5k.

I never track my car...just daily highway driving. I was at the wear bar when I changed them.
