Tire wear pattern!

Default Tire wear pattern!

So I have 15000 on my 2010, its a DD and I was bored and decided to check the wear pattern on my rear tires. I noticed that the outside tread groove was worn down more than the inside groove. Just wondering what everone elses thoughts and ideas are as far as to their wear patterns. I have done some decent canyon carving but am wondering if it is a camber issue. All input is greatly appreciated

my thought is at 15K miles, you should replace your tires anyway. how the hell did you get so many miles anyway??! enjoy the car.

my stockers at 3.5k miles were half gone when i pull them off.

well, im not carving them on a daily basis and i check my air psi every other week. Im running 34 in the front and 32 in the rear. I have probably 70% left on the fronts as well.

I'm just over 28k on my stockers and see the same tread wear. You would think the inside of the tire would be worn out with the camber of the car.

If we had too much camber it would be the iside, im thinking not enough. I spent 30 min on the phone with my dad, he has a 350 and being that my 370 is a 2010 we both have the same type of suspension. He said it is normal for a little outside "scrub" if you frequent canyon carving or tracking the car. The car has about 400 miles of canyon carving on those set of tires so im going to bump up the rear pressure up to 33 or 34 to get a litle more center line of the tire and maybe pick up some inside...we shall see....what are your pressures that you are running?

that might be your problem. car's recommendation is 35psi cold based on comfort... i tend to run at tad higher for better feel. my tires are wearing pretty much flat.

If only the outside edge of your tires are worn excessively (rather than both edges), it's probably not an inflation issue. If inside and outside edges are worn excessively, then it's most likely inflation problems.

If you push the car to the limit on stock alignment, you'll see outer edge wear. Add some neg. camber and that'll help a bit.

I'm of the opinion that the channels on the outside of the Bridgestones aren't as deep as the other channels. Not based on any facts because I didn't check the depths when I got the car.

I just took mine off to put my winter tires on. The outside channels were between 1 and 2/32". The inner channels were between 6 and 7/32", while the inside edge of the tire is wearing pretty heavily, which is expected out of a lot of negative camber.

I also think the lower pressures are part of your issue. I ran lower than I should for awhile due to a bad air gauge. I measured 35lbs, but my TPMS light kept coming on.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've got more miles on mine that you do, but I would suggest running all of them at 35lbs cold.

Outside wear on the rears sounds odd, even with some spirited driving. The negative camber in the rear should lead to wear of the inside thread. For what its worth, I just took my rears to have them replaced. The outside and middle section are worn down to the wear indicators but the inside thread is worn way beyond that. This is after 16k miles, including about 10 autox events and 3 track days. The fronts are in better shape, except for the outside thread of course, that's gone. Thanks to the Zs build in understeer...

Ok kenchan, based on my experience with the door seal recommended tire psi, it was always way too high and intended to wear down the center of the tire. I would love to know the base line measurement of the bridgestones from new, maybe i'll ask the dealer or mic one since my buddy works at the dealrship. Thanks vivid for the info as far as pushing it with stock setup. I am entertaining the thought of a coilover kit but don't have th 5k it cost for that, plus I would love some extra ponies instead.Treesemdy sounds like you have a little bit of cupping if your outside is 1 or 2 and the center is 6 and inside is less than 1. just got my new tires put on. My v-12s were thread showing on the inside walls, the outsides were still good tho.

16K and my inside part of the tire is completly gone.

For $5k you can have some JRZs, which are top notch but well beyond what 98% of the people on this forum would even use let alone need. You can get coilovers as cheap as $500, but they're junk. Expect to pay between $1000-1500 for decent coilovers. $1500-2500 for good stuff, and up to $10k for the really good stuff. I've driven cars with less than 100hp and had a BLAST because they handled so well. A friend let me drive his Integra Type R a bunch, and it was actually more fun with the stock engine than after the 500whp build. If you end up deciding to go down that road, please let me know. I'd love to help you get the car dialed in.

Of course hard to judge like this, but based on what I have seen on my car and on a friend's Z (both cars had more wear on the inside then outside, even though both cars are used for the occasional trackdays and a full autox season), I'd say you don't have enough rear camber. But I don't know whether the rear camber is adjustable at all.
