Tire Replacement ---

1 Attachment(s)
OK, I have had my Z since Oct 2011, and its Dec 2011 and I have to think of new tires, why? Seems the right rear tire picked up a screw/nail. It went straight into the tire, actually drove around town for about a week. Low tire light came on once, thought it was because it got cold. But noticed a noise on Saturday. (It was only losing 2 lbs a day.) The local Nissan dealer plugged it, which is good, it was only 15.00, which surprised me.

But I like to push and autocross and not going to do with a plugged tire. I am wondering what type of tires would be best to use for Autocross. Maybe I can get some money for the other 3 and apply to the new tires.

Budget?

Looks like your looking for an excuse for new tires.

The screw could be patched easily as long as it wasn't on the sidewall. I have had no issues on a patch even canyon carving and neither should you but the RE11's are what some have turned to since they are pretty soft tires. Downside to those is their not cheap!!

the patch should hold fine, but if you want some ideas we need your budget.

Not cheap + wears out very fast! but it is one of the best DOT approved tires for AutoX,Track days, etc

I love my RE-11's. Can't go wrong with them.

danegrey 12-12-2011 06:54 PM

budget about 1000, that is why I am asking, its time just to consider and go and play.
yes looking for a reason, have not liked the reviews on the tires that came with the car.
also the plug is not on the sidewall, it was about 1 to 2 inches into the tread.

I was just online, Tirerack has the RE-11 going for $340 a pop. I am done with them, so expensive

So RE-11's wear out rather quickly? I got about 16K in about a year and a half out of the OEM sport tires and they are 100% done. Would like to get something thats going to last a little longer especially if I'm spending $1300 on a set.

Well the replacement tire for the one that got plugged is about 325.00 It is a Bridgestone Potenza 275/35 R19 96W. The reviews I have seen are not good. Thanks for all the input. Gives me something to think about.

yah, even if you used plugs from the outside my buddies have had no issue autox them.

they picked up a nail going to an event, plugged from outside, did well at the event, drove home like nothing happened. if you plug it from inside out, it'd be even better.

you just technically loose the speed rating.

Scorpio0124 12-13-2011 11:24 AM

Dude, the exact same thing happened to me but I suspect the problem was there before I took possession of the car from the dealer.

I got a low pressure warning the day I took the car out of the dealer and told them about it right away:confused:. I brought the car back & they say they pulled a nail from the rear right tire. The warning light continued to show up even after the repair.

I took it back and they told me they patched the same tire. Despite this the tire continued to loose air. I took the car to a different dealer and they told me that the leak was coming from that same patch & the tire should be replaced because of low thread.

I'm kind of pissed cuz, I shouldn't have had this problem from day 1 & now after only having the car for 4 months I need to replace the rear right tire? This is some BS. This now means I have to replace both rear tires.

Granted the car had 8k on it when I picked it up & I added another 8k to it. I only use it for highway driving to work twice a week & weekend driving, No track racing yet :) .... should this tire have gone low so quickly? I am going to the dealer later today regarding this.. I believe that tire was defective from day 1. Now I am forced to replaced both tires because of this. I feel the dealer should replace that least 1 tire.. ( I will pay for the other) Do u guys think I have a case?

kenchan 12-13-2011 11:28 AM

my RE050A's looked half done at 3500miles when i took them off...

cossie1600 12-13-2011 11:28 AM

the oem tire is a 15k tire duh. re11 last about the same rate

kenchan 12-13-2011 11:31 AM

cossie- you're lucky if you can get 15k.
