To the readers of this thread. If your interested in wheels from a company please ask if their wheels have been tested...

Lol... Whatever Julio.

You seem to be really close to Chris and crew. I started this thread to air out the facts. Blaine came to me because I was trying to help him out and he had already talked to me about wheels before forged specialties showed up! He turned down my offers before because Chris sold cheaper wheels to the point no 3 piece wheel company could compete... Well below my costs! Blaine is a stand up guy and a good customer... A customer I have been talking to for a long time. You can go back to Chris and tell him more info to what's going on here as I already know you do...

I cannot believe that wholeeoh would Evan think about slamming Mike.. I was talking to Mike about wheels before I bought from Chris . Chris said that his wheels are far more superior and that he can get his wheels for a cheaper price .. I fell for it .. So if anyone has shady sales tactics it is Chris .. We know the rest of the story ..

Blaine, I've been following your thread on MYG37. The whole situation sucks, but I didn't know how widespread the problem was until I saw the thread here, the pics of those stress cracks, a posting on FB, the Gencoupe thread, Mustang thread, and BMW thread. Holy $hit!! The power of the internet can make or break a company overnight!

On a sidenote: it's good to see a few of my fellow G members congregating here!

As in the design...

I am using Strasse as an example since I know for a fact they test their wheel designs...

When you design a wheel in a CAD program you can apply the physical properties of the material you are using... (For Example: U.S. Aluminum 6061) Once you do this you can look for design flaws in the CAD program (This is a new feature on newer CAD programs and is AWESOME!) This can be done at the initial design level. After you have a design finished you can send a manufactured wheel to an independent company to test several aspects of the wheels strength and rigidity... Some tests they may perform are:

-SAE Radial Fatigue Test
-SAE Cornering Fatigue Test
-Tri and Bi Axial Test
-13 Degree Lateral Impact
-Inner Rim Radial Impact
-90 Degree impact
etc...

This is expensive to the wheel maker but it ensures that what the customer receives as a product will be safe to drive on! Being an informed buyer is the best way to insure that you are getting a good product for your money. So remember to ask if the wheels have been properly tested.

Mike

OK so we are not defending anyone or taking any sides!

Just want to put some facts out there for everyone's safety.

Just to state a few reasons why these wheels could have failed. These wheels were refinished multiple times in powder. Not sure if anyone has stripped powder coating but it's not fun. It takes a highly toxic airplane grade acid that burns the sh*t out of you if it comes in contact with the skin. Normally places that powder for profit go the easy route and put a blow torch to the powder making it crack and peal off. In the process of doing this you are heating and reheating a part that is tempered for strength. So the part is no longer 6061-T6 aluminum. Changing the temper on a part usually causes these types of structural failures. (Not saying this is what happen just putting information out there). The point I am trying to get across is; if your tracking your car and want to powder coat your wheels use a low energy powder and a powder coater that is knowledgeable in material handling (Usually the race shops go through this elimination process and know who to use and who not to use). If your just getting your wheels refinished make sure the wheels are going to a place that has the proper facilities to do a chemical strip and that your wheels are not spending an extended period of time in the oven. Stay away from places that use pizza ovens to bake their parts and places that powder steel fences and railings as they don't have the mindset of preserving structural integrity.

What we are posting is based on experience. We are not talking about a specific wheel brand. This is not isolated to 1 wheel manufacture or car. Even tested wheels will fail if not handled properly. We spend a lot of time on the track and this is knowledge we have accumulated through testing and experience.

Hope this helps!
