Decal Overlay for Nissan Brakes

After debating powder coating my brakes for a while I realized I really like the color as it stands. Wish I could just change the letters colors. Does anyone know of a place online I can order decals for the OEM Sport Package Brakes? Want to cover the Nissan Silver with Nissan in red.

Any help/advice would be great, thanks.

daisuke149 10-04-2011 09:56 AM

you would probably have to apply the overlay and then clearcoat it again so it doesnt just come off. Mike would be the best person to ask this though.

I have some... PM me.

I have vinyl stickers on my calipers. They have been on since July and still look perfect. I drive the car everyday.. rain or shine.. no issues. Use as a sticker, or as a stencil.

RedBullRR 10-04-2011 12:19 PM

^ Thats what I'm looking for only for it to say Nissan and my choice of color. LOL I wanted to overlay the silver lettering with Red.

TypeOne 10-06-2011 01:28 PM

I could potentially make that happen... Can you get me the sizes?

Jjaden 10-06-2011 01:31 PM

Mike the powdercoater has a bunch of them saying both 'Nissan' or 'Akebono'.

He offers different colours as well, I bought off of him and was very pleased with the result.

Mike Chime in here dang it! Need the Nissan Decal to cover the OEM in Red please.

This....

Yeah, I can help you out. What I recommend is what I did when I was using a set of stock calipers waiting for my stoptechs to come in.

It would be close to impossible to cut them exact to size and position them perfectly so the lighter letters don't show through. What I did and can do for you is mount the red letters on black vinyl and then cut it slightly larger and you can place it as a one piece sticker on it and completely cover the silver. You can hardly tell the black is there.

I want it!

RedBullRR 10-18-2011 08:41 AM

Payment Sent, Letters in Solid Red woot woot!

Ron 10-18-2011 11:19 AM

Hey Mike, what about making the letters just a little bit bigger so that they cover the original ones better?

ClemsonWill 10-18-2011 12:37 PM

Mike, I really like this concept. Is there any way you can use the stock brake caliper color instead of black just to make them blend that much better?

Ron 10-18-2011 12:46 PM

^^ or that too.

Mike 10-18-2011 01:43 PM

Unfortunately, ordering vinyl online is hit and miss for color matching. I'm afraid if it was a little bigger, they wouldnt line up right.

If anyone knows of a vinyl that is gray metallic, let me know

Got the Decals earlier this week. They look great. It's been raining here in NY so the weather is not ideal for sticking these on.

Mike - This decal just lays on top no heat needed? Will the heat from the brakes be an issue with peeling?

Mike 10-28-2011 09:05 AM

It just goes on top and heat won't be an issue. I clear coat over them with powdercoat then cure at 400 degrees without damaging them.

I'm very happy with stock brakes, but I hate the way the calipers looked. In on of the car mags I found my answer. A company called RGS make caliper covers in any color it lettering you want. As you can see they look really good and are easy to install.

Thanks for the link. Those things are expensive.

I might go with Mike's decals in red if they are still available.

Ron 10-29-2011 03:41 PM

^ you already have sport brakes, no need for covers to pretend you do.

Mike 10-29-2011 03:46 PM

yeah, I make them to order. paypal is sales@thepowdercoater.com

Lets wait for feedback from Ron or RedBull to make sure the sizing is right before I send more out. I don't have a set of stock brakes here to compare to and I did these from memory.

Ron 10-29-2011 03:47 PM

Mike I got mine, size for the rears are spot on but the fronts are a bit to large I say maybe two points less on the font

you want new fronts, or are they good enough?

Ron 10-29-2011 09:41 PM

They're good. No worries Mike. Thanks!

They might look alot better than the base brakes, but def not better than the sport akebono brakes.

I agree with you about that. I just don't need to be buying new calipers if the base ones serve me well enough. I don't race and it's my dd . I'm happy enough!

Mike 10-30-2011 08:57 AM

I wouldn't want to cover my brakes and keep the heat inside. Also, I have many corvette customers who try those, and then wind up coming to me to coat their calipers because they look cheesy. I guess on a cheap import like a civic or a Z, they aren't ricey though. :ugh:

Unique_Z 10-30-2011 05:05 PM

Mike, can you ship those akebono letterings on white for front and back to 68100, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia pls, and how much does that costs? thanks

Mike 10-30-2011 06:52 PM

sending a pm

Just looking for something more than white lettering on grey calipers. I really would have liked the 40th anniversary red calipers.

I think the red lettering on the stock calipers would really pop.

RedBullRR 10-31-2011 07:50 AM

Love the way it came out. The letters are bigger then the Stock Decal which I think makes it stand out more. Anyhow I was able to put on the decals this weekend but not because I had time to take off my wheels for ***** and giggles, this is what i woke up to on Saturday Morning.

Mike 10-31-2011 09:00 AM

So you didn't actually take the wheels off, someone else was kind enough to do that for you?

That really sucks!

RedBullRR 10-31-2011 11:23 AM

^ Yeah they did me the courtesy, and broke my Pillar, weather strip and scratched my window in the process. Those darn thief's...
