Hit the curb, now trying to fix it.

So I hit the curb entering my office parking lot while being distracted while looking at some dude that was coming straight at me. Needless to say I now need to repair it.

Step 1: Clean it with Simple green
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...66941349_n.jpg

Step 2: Dremel it down
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...33034029_n.jpg

Step 3: Mask the area
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...43258086_n.jpg

Step 4: Apply JB Weld
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...77900581_n.jpg

Step 5: Sand Dried JB Weld
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...34238427_n.jpg

Step 6: Apply 1st Coat of Paint
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...52447155_n.jpg

Step 7: Apply 2nd Coat of Paint
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...04016526_n.jpg

This is what it looks like after it dried:
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...45524553_n.jpg

Step 8: Sand the dried paint
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...24481592_n.jpg

After the paint cures I think I will apply some polish. Nevertheless, I think the results are fairly good. At least it's better than having the nasty curb rash there.

I used the small cylinder thing of the dremel with the sanding paper attached to it. Kinda like this: http://www.artoo-detoo.net/gallery/d...mel_sander.jpg

For paint I used duplicolor paint I found at advance auto parts, all it said was: Nissan Silver. I honestly think there has to be a better match out there, but for now, it will do.

The crickets have certainly been chirping today, I am so jealous of everyone that went.

Paint? what kind of paint?

Nice I'm in alexandria area, if this works well I may have to visit you when my wheels need a fix-up :P

Great stuff!

Check the links in my sig, btw, since you're local.

What attachment did you use on the Dremel? Where did you get the paint for the wheels? My wife scraped a wheel on her Rogue and I'd like to try this.

Zaggeron 09-24-2011 06:12 PM

In for results. I've got a couple small rashes too.

370Fan2000 09-24-2011 06:57 PM

Thanks for the encouragement guys. Also, thanks for the NoVA love.

joshs09slvrZ 09-24-2011 07:21 PM

Looks great!

gr8-wrx 09-24-2011 09:28 PM

Great job! I think if you weren't actually looking for it, you now wouldn't know it's there.

Zaggeron 09-24-2011 10:08 PM

Looks pretty good.

Anyone know what the paint code is on sport package wheels? I'm betting you could find a better match.

Lol, not for me. The wife has been unable to find a job in almost 3 years. I might have to sell the Z. :(

Even more of a reason to move up this way boss man. It does suck that she hasn't been to get some for that long.. Hopefully you don't get to the point of selling your Z. Jobs are overflowing up in this area and it's not uncommon to get jobs in matter of minutes (yes I said minutes) give it a try our way, you'll probably fare better ;)

Astrosfan 10-04-2011 11:28 AM

any updates on how your wheel looks after some polish?
all 4 of my wheels are pretty curbed (from the previous owner) and a few new ones from me.

I was thinking about trying this, or at least using the dremel to sand them down.

kenchan 10-04-2011 11:33 AM

i couldn't get the same color from just regular available paint. GL with your repair! :)

370Fan2000 10-05-2011 01:21 PM

So... after polish and everything you can still tell if you look closely. My advice is that if you have a lot of curb rashes, paint the whole thing. The paint is really hard to match.

kenchan 10-05-2011 01:50 PM

yah, i found the same too. if it continues to bother you i suggest you take it into a wheel repair shop. they seem to have the exact paint match.

Astrosfan 10-05-2011 01:56 PM

how do you think it would look just to dremel the "rash" off? for now at least?

kenchan 10-05-2011 02:11 PM

there's a black coating under the silver finish so that might show through but filling that down will definitely make it less obvious.

KaienZ34 10-05-2011 02:12 PM

Isn't it black under the paint on the wheels?

kenchan 10-05-2011 02:24 PM

um yes..(?) :icon17:

didymus 10-05-2011 09:24 PM

Cool thread! Someone just needs to find the right paint!

curb rash lmz5 wheel paint match

11 Attachment(s)
FOR REAL!!!! Someone plz get the right paint. Ive been working on my mildly rashed 09 370 nismo rays lmz5 wheel for 3 weeks. Had paint matched 3 times this is the best i can find.. any ideas

the most recent is first and going to the beginning... The last paint looked perfect in the sun with the match card in hand on top of wheel.. HOwever, NOT sooo much.. Not gunna lie though im happy with the paint quality just doesnt f!!! match...I first tried to have the automotive paint supply in FWB FL eye it with a no go...the dirst two times.. This last time was a near perfect match i thought, off Porsche wheel.

I have 3 options paint the entire wheel which is what im thinking will happen. 2. buy 1 new wheel for 500$, 3. paint all 4 wheels a diff color.

Any Ideas?..posting all my pics
