Whats the best tire?

It seems as if the majority of the tires are priced similar, I was recommended Yokohama S-Drive, Nitto Invos, Hankook Ventus V12s, Potenza RE11 and Continental Extreme Contact DWS.

However, I've never really had much knowledge on tires and don't know what is best. Are there particular brands or tires that are recommended or is it all personal preference? I'm planning to upgrade from OEM 18" and gonna wrap them around TE37SL.

I went through this process, don't forget the Michelin tires as well. They consistently get great reviews

There really isn't a "best" tire per se... I think it really is personal preference. There are some factors that you should consider when purchasing tires. For example, what kind of weather will you be doing most of your driving in? If you live in Southern California, you could easily get away with just summer tires with good wet traction as it rarely gets colder than 50 degrees there but it can rain occasionally. Here in the Pacific NW we get a lot of rain and it can get pretty cold so I opted for some tires that were great all around, wet, dry or snow, which is why I got the Continental DWS. IMO, it's the best bang for your buck. That's the other factor, budget. I did most if not all of my research on tirerack.com before making the purchase. Read all the reviews, there's a lot of good feedback on that site.

Amuse370z 09-23-2011 06:32 PM

I currently have the VEntus V12/S.Drive/RE11/DWS tirerack on my tabs and I'm about to read them.

Its gonna be a DD but not in the winter, I got a beater for that. I mainly want good tread and grip.

Birdman - what did you end up going with? sweet nismo btw!

Blue370tt 09-23-2011 06:50 PM

Everyone will have a different opinion. I had a twin turbo 370 that i recently sold, but when I had it I ran Advan Neova AD08's all the way around. Only drag radials will grip better than Advans.

Keep in mind you lose some life WHEN you gain more grip.

phelan 09-23-2011 07:21 PM

Good call on the TE37SL.

Choice of tire depends on what YOU want out of the tire, and how much you're going to drive in different conditions.

For a tire with long life and decent performance, Hankook V12s are okay. Soft sidewall though, a lot of us have come to not like that. Continental DW has also been a popular choice lately.

For more performance-oriented driving, you will want to look further up the chain.

My friend has got the 305 Ventus and he said they are decent tires for the price. Thx for the kind words. I got some goodyear runflat tires pending tirerack inventory, the Advan are currently on backorder - This way in the event of another tire blowout with barely any miles on it, I'll have extra tires sitting around. The Toyo are pretty good tires for performance with decent reviews; upon going through feedback and other posts, they have very limited tire thread, grip like mofos and are risky on wet surfaces (Should you find yourself caught in rain).

The Michelin are def a top choice if you are willing to shell out the $$.

birdmanx1 knows his stuff.

for example, he probably knows I'd add white text in here to insult him, but maybe he's dumb after all.

LMAO, birdmanx1 def has his moments once in a blue moon but maybe he's dumb after all. 99.99999% of the time he pulls stuffs out of his a$$ all the while being that slick

then again I wonder where he picked it up since he's learning from the best, Shado is one of the best so he probably picked up the art of Bullsh*tting from da Shaggadelic Shado, who makes trolling look so sexy and awesome. Long live Shado LOL

Make sure you choose a asymmetric tire with reinforced belts on the inner treads. Our cars run camber so the inner belts are good to maintain posture and prevent premature wear.

Thats great advice, now could you please tell me how I can find that info. Had a blow out in the rear today, so I'm in need of rear tires. I can't seem to find Re11's in the sport pk tire size. 275/35R/19 Otherwise I will just go back to the original tire that came with the car.

DIGItonium 09-30-2011 05:55 PM

My car is a daily driver pushing around 400 whp. With the car running stronger in cooler temps, it's easy to break loose the 305/30 V12 tires in 1st from a roll (full throttle). Otherwise, it's great in the city (not on snow lol). This is my 2nd set, and it's great for the money. The only minor gripe is that the sidewall is a tad soft.

wstar 09-30-2011 06:03 PM

If you're considering those Conti's, look at the DW not the DWS (unless you intend to drive them in Snow).

sonic370 09-30-2011 06:47 PM

Would it be fair to say very few of us stay with the Bridgestones 19in.
Seems like no one raves on them. We all know the reasons.
anyone stick with the oem Bridgestone tires?

cossie1600 09-30-2011 06:58 PM

I am on set #3 of Bridgestone, but they are not hte OEM ones

roy'sz 10-12-2011 12:17 AM

I've gotten good words on the toyo proxess tires. It depends on how you want to balance mileage and grip. If you mic your tires on a regular basis and track your wear you can expect about 30-40k on those tires with lite canyon carving. The advan sports have gotten a little stronger in compound than what they used to be. I know im not stickin with the bridgestones after this.

ZForce 10-12-2011 12:39 AM

Hands down the RE-11, have about 5k miles on them and they will not break loose. Like riding on rails.

you can look at the tread pattern then look at the specs of the tire. they are asymetrical and have thick belts running in the inner side of the tire tread. manufacturers will usually note this in their description.

kenchan 10-12-2011 10:29 AM

toyo proxis are dated imho. and they're only decent at best. they're in the same arena as nitto tires along with the other korean makers.

roy'sz 10-12-2011 03:24 PM

They are a good mileage tire. Decent in handling i would agree. Im not saying they are sticky by an means but you can get damn good mileage out of em if you are dd.

mrmixitup 10-12-2011 04:47 PM

I had Yokohama Advan AD-08s on mine. I loved them. The stickiest tire I've ever driven on (they pick EVERYTHING off the road and throw it on the car). And they grip incredibly well in the rain. I could do 110 no problem in the slickest of roads. They're $300 each, though.

I replaced mine after just 2,000 miles. It was like night and day when I put a better set of tires on there. It's worth it.

roy'sz 10-13-2011 03:00 AM

I was wanting to explore the advan sport. If I had really fat pockets I woud fo for the Michelin Pilot sport, those tires are pretty much bulletproof!

dboosted1 03-07-2018 08:02 AM

RE-11s are basically a dead tire. Go with RE-71Rs, basically the new version of re RE-11s

It really depends on what you want, re71r is a great track tire for about two to four track days depending on your driving ability. Regardless they are no where close to the same tire as re11's for a dual purpose or street use.

This is why i went with S-04s, by no means a super sticky tire, but it should last me a good amount of events with DD driving aswell

Just noticed this short thread is over 6yrs.old,
There are a lot of “Best Tires” just depends on applications + a whole bunch of determining factors. :)

Quicksilvers 03-08-2018 12:51 AM
