Got the Continental ExtremeContact DWS because it's good for an all season tire and is not too expensive. I DD my Z and will have to drive through snow and rain this winter. Don't have enough money for a separate set of winter wheels/tires.

The DWS' are an EXCELLENT tire... I had them on my Evo X and then on the MS3 I had... My Fiancee' at my suggestion went with them on her MS3 as well. I went easily through 8" of snow with no issues last winter and with our snows here last year, they were pretty intense.

Some of the variables we consider are price, performance(grip - dry and wet), durability, summer/all-season, noise level, and ride quality. So, when you say "lesser tire", what exactly do you mean? Cheaper? Less grip? Best or worst wear?

With so many variables and humans being humans, it's no wonder we choose different tires. Are they "lesser"? No, they're just judged on differnet criteria.

By the by, I'd bet money that Nissan chose the tires they did based heavily on what kind of deal they could get from the tire manufacturers - sometimes the bean-counters win.

Lesser tire in the sense that the grip is not as good, and as stated already, the sidewall stiffness. In wet conditions, the OE tires would likely be considered "lesser".

Continental DW is going onto Rin next

As a spoiled Californian, I wouldn't be caught dead with my Z in the snow haha

yeah, as I said... i've had a lot of experience with the Conti's... the DWS's and they are a VERY impressive tire. I replaced my OE Advan's on my Evo with them and while I felt the softer sidewall... they still did handle EXTREMELY well for a 520 rated... 50,000 mile tire. In the snow with the AWD and these tires? LOTS of fun

yah, the initial mush feeling i got going from RE050A to the DW's on the Z was a little werd at first but after i got use to the feel it's actually not bad at all. tires grip very well in tight turns too. i give the DW's

Good to hear! I only have them on the front as of now because I just replaced the OEM Advans for the front. I have some Yokohama all season on the rear, but am replacing them with the DWS in a few months.

The car definitely has more grip than before, especially in the rain. Haven't driven them in the snow yet. Just put them on 2 months ago.

They are as close to a snow tire as you can get without having to run a whole different set-up, and our cars aren't exactly going to be rally racing. They will get you where you need to go when you are careful though.
