Continental DWS issues
Just replaced the original bridgestones after 27k miles with a pair of these highly recommended all seasons. First thing i notice after the switch was how soft these side walls really are. No biggie. My issue with these tires is that i feel a pretty noticeable shaking of my steering wheel at speeds >60 never had this issue with the old set so i dont think its an alignment problem. My next complaint is how disconnected i felt with the steering wheel, with the old set any slight turn i would feel right away, now there is a little play that i noticed when moving it slightly left to right without the car actually giving me any feedback of this adjustment. Is this just the nature or this tire overall or am i looking at something a little bit more complicated involving incorrect balancing or an alignment problem? Thanks!

I have the same tires, dws. I didnt notice any play. I did notice the vibration, but only until the tires warm up, after 5 miles or so. Then after its warmed up I can take my hands off the wheel and there is no vibration at speeds 70+. If you have vibrations you may need wheel weights or torque your nuts.

sounds like one or more of them might be out of balance or have a broken belt inside the tire

Did you not have an alignment done? My first rule-of-thumb when buying tires is to get an alignment done or at least checked.
Check your cold tire pressure and make sure they have 35 pounds. Tire stores aren't not known for their accuracy. I had a flat repaired and they put in 45 pounds. Did they include balancing when you had the tires mounted? Also and absolute neccessity. |

The reason why I stayed away from the continentals was the soft sidewall. Dunno about the vibrations but it doesnt sound normal...

If I'm not mistaken the DWS is an all season tire. If you have a sport package or a Nismo you had summer tires ( not sure what comes on the base model ) so if you came from a high preformance summer tire with almost no tread and went to an all season tire with full tread you could easily feel some squirm in the steering. Also remember that tires need to be scuffed in and run through several heat cycles before you really know what you've got. I generally hate the way all season tires behave so I avoid them whenever possible, but my cars never see snow so I can get by with summer tires
The vibration should be checked out, properly balanced and installed tires shouldn't vibrate. |
