Need some advice about winter tires
So with the winter creeping closer and closer again and me knowing that my Z doesn't move in snow I have decided to finally buy winter tires.
But I have no freaking clue which I should get :roflpuke2: I am now stuck between the Dunlop SP winter sport 3 http://www.winterbandenland.nl/images/dunlop%203d.jpg and the michelin pilot alpin PA3 http://www.michelin.be/content/img/t...otAlpinPA3.jpg those might be sucky but I have no idea what to look for in a winter tire. for my summer tires I am looking to get my hands back on the yokohama ADVAN neova ad8. only problem is that I cant find them here. Every single tire place that I went to doesn't know about it and go "lol you mean ADVAN sport?" tires arent on the belgium site so I guess they don't sell it here. neither same with the a048. I guess the guy that sold me those ugly *** rims and the neovas must of imported them but I lost his phone and adress so I cant ask him :roflpuke2: though I am glad that I can use those ugly *** rims for my winter tires and put the neova for now though they will probably be gone by the time I need to change into my winter tires so still need new neovas |
im going to be driving my G35C this winter and planning to run LM60's by bridgestone on factory 18's. :)
this will be the first time in 7yrs of ownership to drive the car in snow. yes, i am retiring my G in the next 2yrs. :) |
I love how when you look for winter tires you always have one that goes " FOR USERS OF EXTREMELY POWERFULL CARS" makes me feel better than the rest =w=
|
I have been looking at Tire Rack lately and will be buying Bridgestone LM60 (245 wide all around) and dedicated 18" wheels. I believe it come to somewhere around $1600 with shipping. I opted to not go with TPMS. I keep waiting for a sale, but not sure if one will show up. Otherwise I will buy them next month.
|
I don't have TPMS on my car anyway.
since I only have 19 inch rims il have to go with 19 inch tires. thinking of keeping the stock sizes so like 245 and 275 |
If you can swing it, I'd get some cheap 18" wheels.
It's a whole lot less of a PIA to change. Not to mention the chance you take unmounting and remounting two sets of tires. I bought Bridgestone LM25s + rims at Tire Rack two years ago (commercial just came on ) and paid around $1100. 225/50-18s. They work fantastically even in heavy snow. Tire Rack has got Michelin X-Ice Xi2 for $167/tire right now. |
well since I live in belgium their promotions don't matter to me anyway XD
but yeah I have 2 sets of rims. my stock ones and these pretty ricey ones with neova ad08 on them. the neova are going on my stock and the rice will be used for winter |
I have the Dunlop WinterSport M3s and am very pleased with them. They do well in light snow (5" or less) and are pretty good on dry pavement (as long as it's cold). Any more snow than 5" though and you probably won't go anywhere. With the Z the limit will probably be 4" due to ground clearance.
I recommend putting a good bit of extra weight over the drive wheels as well. |

we belgians just cant handle snow. moment half a inch falls CHAOS and then we whine about snow tires being expensive and LOL some people still have them on and m4 how are yah doing. how is the mustang |
The M3s will be great in only that much snow.
I'm good, man. The Mustang is running well. |
il probably take the M3s then.
good good. also my parents are looking for winter tires for the GT-R. any ideas? |
M3s or those Alpins.
The Alpins are going to be the better tire for when it's dry out but still cold. They are a lot sportier and will still do well in light snow. The Dunlop M3s will be better in light snow but won't be as responsive in the dry. So it really depends on what is more important to you. Snow performance or overall cold weather peformance. Either tire is going to be significantly better in snow than any all-season. |
tell me about it. last winter I had to put the Z out of the garage so we could clean the garage.
moment rear tires hit snow LOL STUCK. letting the brakes go would just result in it spinning its wheels slowly(lol AT). so we had to put my mom in the driver's seat so me and 2 mates could push it. then it moved mom goes full throttle and starts drifting back to the garage. I was ******** my pants. her response? "teehee that was fun" oh mom you so crazeh and I will probably take the M3's if they are better in the snow. since with freezing temperatures I wont be going lololol full throttle |
