We tried doing the roof today, but it didn't turn out so good. The plasti dip itself was find if you want a matte finish, but I wanted a glossy finish. When we tried putting on the clear coat, it left a white residue when it dried so we decided to just take it all off. I think it might have been like that because it was too hot outside while we were doing it. The can said to use only up to temperatures of 90*, but it was definitely 100*+ out today. We will try doing it again some other time in Solid Katfish's shop to get some better results. If that doesn't work, I will just do the wheels and get vinyl for the roof.
Here are the pics I took. The last two pics show the clear coat we tried. We only put the clear on a small strip on the right side of the roof just to test it out.

I think it was the high humidity that may have caused us a little trouble. Next time we certainly have to be more aggressive with the coats but overall the roof looked fine if it was going to stay matte finished.

Hey Ron, thanks for emailing me that video, it looks pretty cool. But I think Im gonna hold off, I wanna see if you guys are still happy with this stuff, and it doesnt mess up your paint in anyway, once people start removing it after a few months or longer period of time.

I could do the lower rear where the exhausts are, and the front fangs in red, i think that would look pretty hott.

Also, clear plasti dip is just that. It's not a clear coat, just plasti dip rubber with no color to it. If you put that over the white plasti dip, it won't do anything but add another layer of rubber on top and will probably make the white look worse. Before you do any of this, do what I did. Test it out on something other than your car first. After that, test it on a small part of your car. You could try doing like one spoke of one wheel or something. This way you can find out what works and what doesn't. It would be a lot easier to pull the plasti dip off one spoke than an entire wheel. Good luck with the project man Quote:
An idea Amar had was to do the side mirrors if anyone is interested in that. |
