TE37SL questions
I've never seen a car with TE37SL with center caps on.
Do they even fit? or was I just unlucky not have a chance to see them? Also, for those who bought the set, did you pick them because of 1. cheaper than other volk 2. loved the color 3. their lightness and strong material I am leaning toward SL because of 1&3. I've never seen them in person, but since many people like them, I'd like to know the reason. Thanks!!! |
As of yet, there is not a centercap made for the SL's.
But they do look sick. :yum: |
The wheels were designed more for track use than show. Hence superlight weight and simple pricing. They are meant to be abused :)
I don't think centercaps will be made for the SLs |

1. Cheaper than regular TE37's and I love the look of that design on the 370Z. 2. For the color, not really, I don't really like them in PG because from certain angles it looks bronze and I personally don't like bronze wheels. HOWEVER, I ordered a set of TE37SL's from Victor @ Speed Element through a group-buy that allowed me to get them in Matte Black from factory. 1 of only 3 special colored sets that I know of. 3. Of course this was important too, them being even lighter in weight than regular TE37's. Quote:

Correct, they were not designed to have center caps, but Rays has come out and said they are 'looking into' making some.

Flat center caps FTW. I wish I had flat center caps on my regular TEs

Although I didn’t weigh mine before mounting them, when I picked up the box it was crazy how light they were. I got mine more for the color and weight.

The 19x9.5" +22 TE37SL's weighed in at 20.4 lbs and the 19x10.5" +22 weighed in at 20.8 lbs. Maybe the 10.5" +12 could weigh a little bit more. Apparently, as offset get more aggressive, wheels get a bit heavier.. :ugh2: |
I kinda liked how the wheel changed color at different angles.
I got it because I am a Volk wheel whore. :p |

The reason as to why SLs do not accept center caps is because the centers are machined more than the standard TE37 for the purpose of extra weight savings. |
^ Can you confirm if the new TE37SLs will have a reduced lip that will save weight over standard TE37s, but will still accept a center cap?
|
Do center caps even weight 0.1 lbs?

I don't think it's the caps but rather they can shave off more materials in the center section for weight saving. I could be wrong though.

Actually, it is now possible to get center caps on the TE37SL. There is an adapter that makes it possible. Check out Racing Sciences - Home.

the reason for no caps is that when the wheels heat up, air pressure builds underneath them and they can literally pop off. my friend has RE30's with nice caps and after doing some laps at VIR he pulled into the pits and when he stopped he heard "pop..........pop pop.......... pop" and they had all popped out. when racing, what the wheels are designed for, you don't want caps, therefore they didn't even try to make them to accept caps

This sort of mod should only be used for cosmetics, never when on the track. |
yea he was lucky to have it happen there. had he stayed out another lap i'm sure they would have been long gone/trashed
