I call bs. He hit a pothole with a flat tire, or this didn't happen as said.

It's one thing to run a replica, it's another thing badging it with the real branding logo...sigh.. It's a fine line to begin with...

People see stuff like this all the time with Rotas and whatnot yet people still buy them. Same rule applies to all wheels really, save for the real stuff or stick with stock wheels.

I would have to disagree, there are several reputable race teams that run Rotas without issue. These are another animal all together.

Any person that spends 5 minutes on the internet should be able to tell the difference between the two.

The real deal BBS has stampings all around the center and along the lips, you can literally spot it from a mile away

There is no way that going 25mph caused a rim to rip apart all the way around like that. The pothole would have had to been enormous ,and the driver blind to have hit that.

the other thing is, if he hit a pothole larger/fast enough to break a rim like that, the tire would be severly damaged too (Gashed, ripped, blown). not perfectly round like it is int he picture.

Wow, thats some crazy damage. Had to be one hell of a pothole

I'll be honest, I knew buying this car that most modifications etc will be more than with a lot of other imports I've had in the past...one thing, seeing the cost of many of these rims set ups is pretty high up there...it definitely makes you consider replica's

However, when you get into the 19" and 20" territory, I figure you have to go quality....such bigs wheels have more space to spread the load and impact...so strength is even more important (unless my logic is flawed)

All this to say, a 16-17" replica probably isn't a big deal..but knowing I'll get 19/20", gotta pay to play pretty much

those of you saying "that the tire should be damaged", or "i dont understand the failure", etc etc i think are missing the point. i think the entire point is; look how this wheel came apart in this totally ridiculous way, and it wasnt even severe enough to tear the tire apart.

you can tell those wheels were mint 5 min before that pic was taken. there is no evidence of curb rash or any type of previous abuse. from the portion of the lip that can be seen in the pictures, it didnt even take a direct hit, it actually failed from the pressure of the tire pushing it.

i nailed something with my advans on my 350z. the tire survived, but the lip took a small bend where it hit. it was minor enough to be repairable, but i just replaced the wheel anyway just in case.

i am not saying that i would never run replica wheels. not at this point in time while my 370z is still an expensive car, and not when my 350z was worth a lot... but now that 350zs are worth dirt... eh whatever, i would consider replicas if wheel shopping for it. matter of fact i did shop them, until i found a brand new set of different advans for it for 1300

if i had a replica wheel and it failed like that... whatever. no surprise really, wouldnt shock me at all. i would just replace it and say well good thing they are cheap.

There will still be a crowd who doesn't know that and will be impressed by the seemingly expensive wheels. Not saying I approve, but I understand why some faker would do it.

I'm not missing the point. I get it. Replica = cheap. ok. I'm saying that I don't buy the that he was only going 25mph. Sounds like he made that up for the benefit of Law Enforcement.
