Next set of tires - General G-Max AS-03

Anyone tested these out yet? Reviews look good, and price looks great too. Just curious if anyone had a real world review yet?

General G-MAX AS-03

Given the tread life rating I wouldn't expect any amazing grip but they'll get you around and last a long time.

if you're wanting General tires, get Continental's. they are built in the USA, i think at the General's old factory. continental bought them out. :)

Read this article - Tire Review: General Tire?s G-MAX AS-03 | Driving the Nation
Also, I don't do any tracking.. mostly just a little spirited street cruising here and there, so I don't need anything crazy sticky...

I looked at the Continentals, but they're 15% more in price... Is the difference significant enough to warrant the extra cost?

Also, I'm running Hankook V12's right now, so this might make for an interesting comparison.

That review was from an extreme amateur who had no idea what she was doing, take that with several grains of salt.

The actual review on Tire Rack was promising, but incomplete.

I do have the Exclaim UHP on one of my sedan's as a Summer tire, the AS-03 is supposed to be the replacement and now have supposed all-season capability. I rate the UHP as fair in the grip department, was also quiet and moderately comfortable.

hummm... tires is one of the critical parts of the car you shouldn't cheap out on. i mean to begin with, you got a 370Z, right? why bother getting a performance car if it can't perform due to cheap tires...(?)

just a thought. get the best tires you can afford. :)

texasviking 06-27-2011 12:54 PM

I didn't say I couldn't afford them... I asked if they were better tires... no point in spending an extra $100 for tires that perform exactly the same...

ive not known General brand tires as high performance tires for street so better get the Continentals until they make a good brand image for themselves.

also check out the new bridgestone tires. they are kick arse. :p

texasviking 07-06-2011 03:51 PM

Well... I lied.

My guy at Discount Tire says they are nationwide backorder with no ETA, so that's no good. Went ahead and got another set of Hankooks.

Maybe next year :P

kenchan 07-06-2011 04:39 PM

yah tires are black and round. they're all the same right? :D

ZeeingAround 07-06-2011 09:57 PM

What size hankooks did you get? Are you on 19in rims?

General G-MAX AS-03

Those are for "sporty" sedan's NOT sports cars. Look into the RE-11's you bought a sports car so buy the appropriate tire for them don't be cheap.

I see a lot of your posts praise the RE-11's.

What comparison are you basing these claims off of?

What other tires have you tested on your Z?

How many miles did you get out of your RE-11's?

Do you track your Z?

From my searching I've found good praise for these, including mustang and camaro forums. I wouldn't call either of those cars "sporty sedans". Also, 1 review included a TTS, a car I would consider a competitor of the 370.

While I did buy a sports car, the Hankooks that I purchased (now my 2nd set, 1st set netted me 26K miles) have more than enough grip for my spirited street driving. I don't track my car, nor do I plan to take my car "to the limit".
