Rule of thumbs for black cars?
Is there any general colors to avoid in a wheel for black cars? I've been to avoid all gunmetal and white wheels like the plague but is there any more suspects to add to the list?
|
y avoid gunmetal?
|
I think any color wheel can look good on black (even white if done right). I might stay away from pink or purple though... :D

Not wishing to offend anyone, but I have seen some black wheels that look really bad on black cars.
I'd stick with pearlescent silver (like mine!) |
I think the whole "murdered out" crap is the most ridiculous look out there now. It'll look dumb on the 370Z in my opinion.
As far as wheel colors, there are tons of choices that can look good. Gold/bronze will look good, along with gunmetal. Chrome too, depending on the wheel. I'm a fan of the wheels that mix black on the inside of the spokes with a polished metal look on the outside. All I know, is Volks to me are about as played out as Torq Thrust II's on F-bodies, or Bullitt's on Mustangs. |

Just kidding. :stirthepot: |
Pretty much any color wheels look good on black. My least favorite color wheel on black though would have to be Mag Blue.
|
Heh I just found out what "murdered out" means(thanks urbandictionary.)
Anyways, I've been a fan of murdered out cars since... back in high school and I didn't realize until recently how much it's played out. Sad thing is I really have my mind set on the Advan RS-D and almost every other car had wheels with similar color schemes(black inside polished lips.) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3651/...ac74d5.jpg?v=0 |

Some cars can pull off a murdered out look well. SUV's and big sedan's, namely.
I dont think the 370 is one of those cars...its not a ghetto hood rat or anything like that. |

Who are you to say something is too ghetto or anything?! Leave it to the people to make that choice. Honestly it just depends on what look your going for. I'd rock the te37's anyday, those are sweeeeeeet but will rape your wallets. |

Sorry if I touched a nerve if you were planning on murdering yours out by stating my feelings on how it looks? lol And now that I notice it, judging by your avatar, it sure looks like that was your plan. |

Just got a little :excited: |
LOL VOlks are certainly not played out... too many ppl want them and wish they had em so you hear about them a whole lot... I am sure anyone here would rock em if they could afford em... im gonna trade in my set of CE28's for wider CE's in bronze soon :) Volks ftw... quality meets lightweight cant be beaten...

The SR-71 Black bird and the F117-A. That's it! Have some personality and add a freaking trim color!!! For God's Sake!!! Give us some contrast!!! |
Other than wheel stripes and brake caliper, where else can I add some color?

http://www.motorauthority.com/wp-con...ero_430_03.jpg I think the 370z will look great in many color/style mod combos murdered out included. I personally don't plan on doing it when I get mine (love the white). If it's tastefully done IE: GOOD parts, right drop, off set, tires, etc... the lines of the car will really stand out. The 370z is awesome. :worship: |
Yeah. Yeah. And the Lambo Rev... But 2 things... A) That Ferrari has color. Pin striping, Ferrari logo, and wheel rim. But still it shouts it's lack of personality. It's not that it looks bad - because it doesn't. It's that it just seems like the owner can't match colors.
Also, I've noticed that a lot of people (when attempting to murder out a car) don't do it right. First off, that matte black paint is VERY hard to apply and it's VERY expensive. The cheaper alternative version NEVER looks like it came out right. Sometimes it looks like it was put on with a paint roller. To add to that, the special clear-coat is also very expensive so when you skip out on the clear coat, the paint looks worse almost by the day. I see a lot of backyard jobs that don't look bad, but every one that I've seen that was matte black was an utter failure. |

Ah. Those are nice wheels... Gram-lights I think. But I like 5 spoke more.
And they look good in white on a black car. |
^ drooolllll

I think rim color choice is really a matter of personal taste.
IMO, if it's an actual color not on the white-grey-black scale, it's k as long as it doesn't creat a stereotypical tackiness, like green rims on a red car = christmas time. When it comes to white-black, i like something along the lines of bright silvers/greys, whcih I guess you can say is vanilla flavored. Personally, I always think black rims make it looks like your hub caps fell off. |

I used gunmetal/anthracite on my 996 with ForgeLines and liked the look.
|
No gun-metal? That's by far the best looking color on a black G/Z!
Like many, I started to hate the "murdered out" theme and decided against black wheels with a polished lip. (Although, I did contemplate a solid black look, which looks awesome). This isn't a 370Z, but here's what gunmetal wheels look on a G Coupe (wheels and car were dirty when I took the shots): http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ist/Shoot9.jpg |
Volk and played out don't fall in the same sentence. The only reason why you're getting that assumption that everyone has TE37's are because of the knockoffs and look-a-likes. Using the mustang wheels are a terrible example of comparison because...
1. Those wheels are polished in contrast to the matte and semi-gloss finish on volk wheels. 2. TE37 have spokes that are flat, have extreme offsets, and the concave aspect is greater than those mustang wheels. 3. Those wheels have no comparison to the performance benefits that volks offer (lightweight, forged, and used highly in racing such as JGTC). No offense to your post, it just upsets me when people overlook the appreciation for simplicity and how well it makes a car look good. Sure there are knockoffs, but you can identify the fake ones and the benefits alone that RAYS Engineering offers by supplying passion for excellence in quality and motorsports show that they are an exceptional brand. How can you not love this... http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...g?t=1241360402 |
I can not love it very easily, thank ya :)
As someone said, its personal preference. |
I'm not a big fan of the "murdered" look either. I like contrast.
However, I do like black wheels. I think I will be going with Forgestar F14's in matte black with a red pin stripe. I also am not a fan of blacking out tail lights and/or headlights. |
I love the murdered out look. When done right, it looks very menacing and evil. Black is the only color that can pull that off.
|
stay away from those gold or bronze colour wheels, the Z is not a Subaru Rally car...lol
it's just so ugly on blacks cars IMHO !! and forget about chrome rims too... |
I actually like the bronze colored wheels on black 350Z/370Z. Now chrome is a different story. :barf:

I like the look of the VS-XX's and was thinking gold, but then I saw it in person on a black car. Blech...way too bright. Bronze is a bit more subdued. Either that or a hyperblack style... |

I think Chrome on black cars looks pretty good.
Problem with the murdered out cars is that you can't freaking see anything on them. No body lines, no curves... Just looks like a freaking shadow. "Yay... I drive a shadow" |
IMHO this thread shows how little our HO's are worth.
|
black and chrome looks good if there's not that much chrome, like just the lips and emblems would be cool.
