Lou over @ amplified is working his a** off to get me that set of Volks so I dont mind setting up a cool beer pong table with Michelins for legs for a couple more weeks :)

shumby 05-24-2011 10:51 AM

i got 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 on my G37. Love them got teem installed for $1123. Tires are awesome low road noise less tromilling. great in the rain so far.

jikhead 05-24-2011 03:04 PM

I just drove about 500 miles yesterday on them on the highway. They were really quiet and it rained nearly the entire time; no issues in the wet whatsoever at 80mph on the freeway.

crf450 05-24-2011 03:33 PM

nice thread

I got hankooks and was very disappointed with the turn in felt like my sway doubled and car lost a lot of the instant response and rolled more. that said they were quieter hooked up better and after the initial roll realley cornered well, They were cheap $800 for the set and are lasting well, excellent in the rain. I am considering trying these michlenes next time around.

I completely agree! they might be the perfect tire. my ONLY gripe (and it is minor) is the tramlining. SoCal freeways have those stupid grooves in freeways here (like it rains here?) and i can feel them all. regular roads though = grip heaven

+1 for PSS.

Soon I will be looking for a new set of tires too. In one year, at 6,000 miles I am at 6/32 in the front and 3/32 and 4/32 on the rears. I've never done a burn out either.

Is this what others experience as far as wear pattern goes.

By the way, On past cars, I got one year out of fronts and two years out of rears.

SiXK 05-26-2011 10:50 AM

Just bought a set of Pilot Sport A/S Plus Saturday. Actually bought them the Monday before but it took Discount Tire 5 days to get them in. Love them so far. Have had several sets of Pilot Sports before (not the A/S plus) and have always loved them.

nismodreamr 05-26-2011 03:53 PM

my set of these came today, they look great, cant wait to get them on the car!

FastPaced 05-26-2011 09:32 PM

I have a question. I have RE050A's in the front with tread 8/32 and my rears are at 3/32. I'm looking to buy the A/S Plus. Would it be ok to have two different sets of tires or do I need to buy a whole set? This is my first car and first time ever dealing with tires. :ugh2:

Never mix tires.

At around 17000 miles I still had 6/32 on the front and 2/32 on the rears. I drive mostly open road miles.

I'm replacing my stock Pirelli PZeros with the Pilot Super Sports this summer. Based on all of the reviews and tests it looks like it clearly outperforms the PZero, which I have found to be an excellent tire. I should get double the tread life out of them too... too good to be true? We'll see!

I've had extremely bad luck with Michelins. Not because they're bad tires, mind you. Just extremely bad luck. Tires in sidewalls, random potholes, etc. If Michelin makes the best performance tire, I'll be stuck with second best :icon14:

That's weird, I feel the same way. For whatever reason whenever I have Michelins it seems I get more nails, etc in the tires than when I have other brands. I even said that to my wife while buying the Michelins last week.

m4a1mustang 05-27-2011 10:22 AM

I've never run any Michelin's before so we'll see how that goes. I picked up a nail in one of my Hanpoops, so I guess you could say I have bad luck with those. :(

lol you picked up A nail.

I replaced all four Michelin tires and two replacements on my Mazda6 in my first year of ownership. :bowrofl:

I want to buy a set of Michelins, but the Hydroedge is on national backorder#$%^&*

wilsonp 05-27-2011 12:45 PM

All the sports cars I've had (MR-2 SC, NSX, 370Z) use up the rear tires about twice as fast as the front tires.

I buy another set of rears, then swap all four when the fronts get low.

Good plan

m4a1mustang 05-27-2011 12:50 PM

I am glad I have a square setup -- I can swap the front and rears for even wear.

:iagree: That's a very nice feature of the Mustang. You can actually rotate your tires.

PZeros are one of the comparison tires that Michelin used as a bench mark to beat. Some of the advertising claims that Michelin uses for the PSS are in comparison with the PZero (if I recall correctly)

I'm still liking mine!

Me too. These are great tires. I have about 1,800 miles on them now.

I hit one of favorite ramps back home in Little Rock yesterday; which is the ramp to go from I30 to I630. It has a long curving ramp that I've always managed to do 60-80mph with ease depending on which car I was in, and the condition of the tires. I didn't really like the sidewall feel taking this turn. Even though it managed it at 70mph easily, the sidewalls felt a little soft and spongey. I could feel the tires and the car jiggle/sway about every second or two while taking the long turn. I never experienced this feeling in the stock Yokahoma's, nor any of the tires I had on my old WRX.

I have a few local onramps (actually some very nice long sweepers) and I tend to push the car on these (always with no one around me and, of course, within the limits of the law).

I find the Super Sports quite solid in these experiences -- much more so than the Potenzas they replaced.

Nismo,
What size tire are you running in the front, and what are the specs of your T37's?

Nice,
just out of curiosity how does it ride, I heard 255/305 is too big of a stagger, they recommended I got 265/285 at a local tire shop. How does it drive with that tire set up?

it is not on the car yet, I am not going for "ride quality" though, If that was the style I wanted I would have bought a caddy. As far as it being 2 much of a stagger, I dont think that should make a huge difference, stock is 245/275 I am only two sizes wider. I will be sure to post a thread when everything is on my car when the volk's get here and let you know though!

Fern to the Z 06-01-2011 08:20 AM

LOL a caddy huh? when i speak of "ride quality" I'm talking about affecting performance, like handling, increase fishtailing on curves, MPG's etc.. not road noise or anything associated with "comfort" which one would usually think of when talking about a caddy... Anyway look forward to reading your thread :-)

m4a1mustang 06-01-2011 08:23 AM

255/305 is a tremendous amount of stagger. It will certainly dial in a lot more understeer into the car. The car will plow in the corners.

But if you're just after the look and don't drive it in a "performance" oriented fashion, you should be fine.
