Hankook V12 longevity

I have heard people say these wear better than the stock potenza's. I got around 18k out of my potenza's on my base 370z w/ sports package. Anyone know what I can expect out of these?

I ordered the following:
Rear: 295/30/19
Front: 255/35/19

Zerafian 05-03-2011 08:23 PM

more miles...potenzas are softer

I think you could reasonably expect 30k or more out of the V12s if you were able to get 18k out of the Potenzas.

wow... even on my dd's Fusion tires (bridgestone) i can only get max 17-18K. :D

professordave runs v12's and he seems to be pretty happy with them.

I had them on my Z for a while and they aren't a bad street tire. They are ridiculously awesome in the wet. In the dry you give up a bit of grip and a lot of feel over the Potenzas, but they are still better than most all of the all-seasons out there and are a good budget summer tire with reasonable life expectancy. Will I ever buy them again? No. But if you don't want to spend a lot they are not a bad tire.

Sounds about right, although 25k might be more reasonable to expect due to funky alignment stuff.

sounds like a fair review!

I got about 18k miles out of mine (V12s) due to tire height being less than OEM. The inside has worn down to the wear strip whereas the outside has about 16 mils left before the wear strip.

I'd highly recommend getting an alignment done when going non OEM size/height.

flashburn 05-04-2011 05:28 AM

I got about 19K out of my rears. I'll probably get about 25K out of my fronts. This was with 1 HPDE as well.

Update about these tires

I replaced my stockers all around with these at around 14K. I got about 17K out of them (replacing the rears as we speak and actually came here to post my results). Fronts are at 6.5/32nds. These will last you a little longer than stock, but if you are looking for significant gains in longevity, look elsewhere. I picked them for their wet weather capabilities, which while not amazing are better than the stock Potenzas through puddles. I'm going with something different this time and will report back. My car does not see track duty, but does see a lot of highway miles, so how the tires handle at the extreme limit are not a consideration for me.

Previous and current owners chime in. Does the Hankooks have a rounded sidewall? I think the wheels look weird with that rounded sidewall. I like the look of the Bridgestone's flat sidewall.

fuct 05-04-2011 03:45 PM

im at 15k on my 305/30 V12's in the back. -2+ degrees of camber has the inside of the tires bald, outsides look great......

houkouonchi 05-05-2011 11:27 AM

Thanks for all the responses guys! Its appreciated! I was supposed to get my hankook's installed today but it looks like the place didn't get them yet so not until tomorrow. With warranties and everything its gonna cost me around $1100 for the new tires. Definitely more than I am used to!

spearfish25 05-05-2011 12:16 PM

For $240 more, you could have RE-11s. I suppose it depends what you're planning to do with them though. If you're going to track, the RE-11s are a better choice. If you're just leisurely street driving, the V12s are a great tire.

:iagree:

Even if you don't do any tracking, the RE-11 is an amazing street tire. I can't get them in the correct sizing for my car, though, so I've got to go with NT05s.

My set should have lasted longer. I replaced all 4 after less than 2 years due to a couple of reasons:
  • One of the front tire suffered a minor puncture of the sidewall from slightly bumping into a curb. It scuffed the wheel a tiny bit, but who knows when the sidewall is going to give out. Other than that, the front tires should have at least 1-1.5 years of tread life remaining. What a waste. :shakes head:
  • The rear tires had decent tread life remaining, but the inner 1" was getting completely bald. This is a daily driver that doesn't see WOT as often. As some owners have commented, the rear camber probably isn't that great from the factory.
For my new set, I'm going to take advantage of the 305 tires by giving it more positive camber. The camber kit arrived, but not installed. After dropping the car the contact patch covers roughly half of the tire. Hopefully I can shoot for something close to 90% contact patch (i.e., retain some negative camber).

I ended up getting my hancooks. They got the tires @ 10:30 AM. I stayed up a little later than I wanted to today (I work nights) but it barely made my deadline.

My initial reaction is the tires felt very slippery but I am pretty darn sure its because of how they were cleaned and the fact they are bran new. I am sure I will have a better idea of how they are once I put a couple hundred miles on them and actually start driving normally again.

You're going to need to put a few hundred miles of normal street driving on them before the mold release goop wears off the tires. Until then they will feel fairly slippery.

The might also feel a little more squishy than you're used to because you are going from a tire with not much tread left to one with full tread, so you'll feel that tread deflection. The sidewalls are also a bit softer.

All-in-all a good street tire.

Disclamer:

I have a NISMO, so I got Yokohama Advan Sports as Stockers.

/Disclaimer

I replaced my rears w/ V12 because my stock rears were shot (down to the steel belts) @ 25K. The fronts are still good and will last me a few more months. The V12s were kinda sucking when they were new, but got considerably better as I wore them in. Not as sticky as the Advan Sports, but compariable. Advans have a tread wear of 180 and the V12s have a tread wear of 280. Advans cost 290-360 for rears (depending on where you get them) and V12s cost around 220-245 for rears. I doubt I will go with the V12s up front though. Don't get me wrong, they are awesome for the price. I figure if I am going to replace the fronts, I am going to go with Yokohama Advans all around again or Hankook Ventus R-S3s (140 tread wear). Both tires are around the same price, but the Advans are the stock equipment.............meh

Kind of a funny tidbit, but now that my Pirelli PZeros are at the wear bars after 8,000 miles of driving I am looking at tires and what do you know? I'm looking at the V12s again for my street-only setup even after I said I wouldn't run them again. I don't want to have to replace a street-only tire every year. :icon17:

flashburn 05-06-2011 12:52 PM

Geez, at 8,000 miles, I'd have to replace my tires almost twice a year!

These PZeros go quickly! I could probably keep driving them to 10k but that's about it.

I don't think I could justify buying them again for me but I went with OE sizes. I bet if you go with narrower sizes and stretched the sidewall to stiffen it, they'd be a ton better. As they sit now, they're the squishiest tire I've driven between my 370 and the EVO X MR I previously had.
