You are right that the PSS will outlast the RE11, but it doesn't grip better. The PSS was designed as a replacement to the PS2, which is nothing more than a very good street tire where the RE11 was designed as a treaded track tire. You might want to lower your expectations on the PSS to something like a S04. It's a Michelin tire, I believe they will be very good. I just hate the fact that they are so expensive, almost like buying a BMW.

Life expectancy on RE-11 is roughly 8K-15K, PSS is 30K.

3. The PSS's have a treadwear warranty and the RE-11's none.

4. The PSS's test performace surpasses the RE-11 (and every other tire) in most or all areas.

5. No doubt the RE-11 is a great tire -- I have used them on other vehicles. But, they don't last very long and as they wear they get a bit squirrely in wet conditions.

6. I researched this purchase for a couple of months and absolutely believe these are the best tires to get for a Z that is driven almost every day (and driven hard, conditions permitting), in many different situations and in different weather conditions. Time will tell if I am right.

Realize that treadwear ratings are proprietary values that are not accurately comparable across tire brands. It's a voodoo number the tire companies make up to meet criteria (like DOT certification) and to compare wear ratings within their brand lineup.

If you think the Super Sports are going to last appreciably longer than RE-11s or even the older PS2, you're going to be disappointed. That treadwear rating of 300 means zilch.

That being said, I'm sure they will be phenomenal tires. Certainly on my list in the future if the RE-11s don't keep me as thrilled as they currently do.

You won't be happy to see them wear out at about 6000-7000 miles in the front, of course you will be going so much faster that you don't mind it as much. It's not like the R888 where you spent tons of money and is still slow.

I just read the Michelin tire warranty fine print. The 30k coverage only applies to 2011 model year vehicles equipped with the tires as OEM fitment. If the car comes with staggered sizes, the warranty is then cut in half to 15k miles. From the brochure, it looks like buying loose tires for our cars doesn't keep the 30k mile warranty. Boooo (see file attached)

Treadwear (tire softness) and grip go hand in hand. You can't have a rock hard tire that outgrips every other existing tire. Look at F1. They run on soft compounds to ring out the 'hot' laps when they need to and switch to harder compounds for longevity between pit stops at the cost of losing a few seconds a lap.

I've decided I no longer care about tire costs. It's like buying a Bugatti and then being pissed it takes 'expensive' premium gas. If I wanted tires to last 40k miles, I should have bought a Prius. I just have to hide the replacement tire purchases from my wife who doesn't share my sentiments.

I wish I can be a baller like you. I just got my credit card statement, can't believe I had to blow $1180 on a set of tires and $60 on a tank of gas. Why can't my paycheck go up as fast as tires cost. I am seriously thinking about running the Nitto NT01 and NT05 combo for next year, they are down to $240 a pop rather than $305.

Oh yeah, the 285 all around works great

My wife just turns the other way, we do the don't ask don't tell policy when it comes to racing stuff.

'waaaa waaaa...'

That's nothing, the Prius crowd bitches over the loss of 1mpg due to not having the wheel cover. When you are used to driving a car that gets 42mpg on regular, then you have to get stuck in a car that gets 19mpg on premium. You will start bitching too. I am just annoyed that I spent $30K on my car and I don't get to use it other than the weekends. I put like 600 miles on the car in the last 5 months due to the weather and all the other BS. I want to drive it today, but I can't because I have to take the dogs today. I don't want to drive it for 10 minutes and have to swipe door hair from the car for 30. The racing cost is another story. Once you have to start buying tires and all the other BS, it really starts adding up.

Haha, the Z. $1200 for tires every couple track days is brutal.

The Fit is pretty nasty on a tight course... my little brother had one, that thing was a blast to take in the twisties.

Haha, my cars are only street cars. The only time I needed tires frequently was when I carved the santa monica canyons like 12+ yrs ago every weekend. Lasted like 3k miles which wasnt too bad. The Fit needs LSD and another 150hp.

Onzedge- any inital reviews and picts on the car?

call me naive, but are you really trying to compare a run in some backroad to running around a track? i think you need to drop your fast and furious dvd and try a session at the track.
