Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-04

I just had the new-for-this-year Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-04 tires installed on my 09 370z, which came with the sport package. I went with stock sizes up front, but changed to a 285/35-19 on the back, which fit perfectly on the 10 inch wide rims. The stock Potenza's measured at about 9.5 inches of contact tread, whereas the new tires measure around 10.25 inches of tread on the pavement. I feel confident that this size is good if not even better than stock, as the tires do not seem bunched up on the rim and the edges achieve contact in turns, even with the extreme stock tow-out setting of rear suspension.
While I have only been driving a few miles on the car with these tires, and the (casing mold?) has yet to wear off, I can report that the car "seems" more planted, and in yesterday's rain performed light-years ahead of the OEM tires.

I will post again once I have put a few thousand miles on these tires, but so far I am happy with the purchase.

Yes, please let us know how they work out. It was a tough call for me between these and the new Pilot Super Sports.

Chan Chee Hoe 04-09-2011 08:16 AM

In S'pore,the latest Bridgestone are S001,is there a S-O4.?

kenchan 04-10-2011 07:19 AM

Ooo, those are next on my list. S04's. :yum:

Hahaha, yah, can't go wrong either way probably. :D

Chan Chee Hoe 04-10-2011 06:46 PM

Any pictures of SO-4.?

Red__Zed 04-10-2011 11:13 PM

Nice. Curious to see what you think.

Great tire, but god they are expensive

Mike's 370z 04-11-2011 09:45 AM

While they are more expensive, they are only $100 in total more expensive than the stock Bridgestone RE50As, which only had a 140 wear rating, while the new S-04's have a 280 wear rating. I did not wish to purchase a less expensive tire that would take away from the handling characteristics of the car. That is why I stayed away from the Conti DW, which everyone rated mediocre under "Steering Response" as compared to others.

Mike's 370z 04-11-2011 09:47 AM

I looked at the Super Sports, as they are similar in price, but they were not available in 285/35-19, for which I really wanted. I measured the tread contact of the old RE50s at just over 9 inches, whereas the new S-04 at the 285 size gives me over an inch more in tread contact.

Mike's 370z 04-11-2011 09:49 AM

Haven't really pushed it in the dry, but a spirited drive in a decent rain the other day was very impressive; at 60 mph I could make fairly abrupt lane changes with no slippage, no hydroplaning, and complete confidence.

kenchan 04-11-2011 10:59 AM

^^ sounds good, keep us posted.

those are suppose to be quiet too, unlike the S03's. :)

ZForce 04-11-2011 11:28 AM

About ready to pull the trigger on the discontinued RE050 Pole Positions or over size and go with RE11's. These and not cheap. Are these a replacment for the RE050 Pole Positions?

I am looking for a size that would fit well on the sport rims with 25mm spacers in Rr and 20mm spacers in the Fr on Swift springs, trying to keep them from rubbing in the front and keep from looking like a 4x4 in the rear. Anyone have any ideas on the ideal oversizing for my setup?

I like to OP's setup for front and back.

kenchan 04-11-2011 11:41 AM

i think they are replacements for the S03's that phased out a few years ago.

The RE050A's will probably be used on OEM's for a while, but stores will probably phase out the RE050A PP's to make room for the S04's.

ZForce 04-11-2011 02:41 PM

Thanks for the info on the RE050 pole positions. Still deciding if the discontinued (dropped price) on the RE050 Pole Positions is worth it versus the S-04's. My research continues on the other question.

kenchan 04-11-2011 02:47 PM

ive been using RE050A PP's on my G35C. they are good tires.. actually my favorite so far. :)

ZForce 04-11-2011 03:33 PM

Yeh, I heard you state this on another thread that these (RE050 Pole Position) were going to be your next replacement, then I heard you pulled the trigger on the Continentals. So then a toss up between Pole Positions and Continentals. RZC (Raul) has been informing me that RE-11's would also be good even with my wide spacers. So now I am looking into Pole Positions, S-04's and RE-11's.

Trying to keep up on the new tire threads popping up before I open the one billionith thread on tires. Thanks for your feedback I have been following your lead.

Yah, for the stock 19's im going to get the RE050A PP's; the weds 19's have the conti's.
wasn't a bad choice at all, but I prefer the response of the Potenza's and the sidewall design so after im done with the Conti DW's its S04's in stock sizes. :)

i dont know how different these tires are from the s03s, but i recall them having a different compound at the 60% wear mark. when your compound switches over, you will feel the car being worse than on slicks. it was just a weird quirk. other than that, i loved the s03s. i think these will get you 20k to 30k miles? i know the re11 is more of a 10k miles tires

I pulled the trigger on the Pilot Super Sports. They deliver Friday and go on the car Saturday. More to follow....

Any update on your thoughts about these tires op? Im about to pull the trigger and purchase thses tomorrow. Im getting these instead of the re11 since they are on backorder everywhere.

onzedge 04-19-2011 09:06 PM

I put 250 miles on my Pilot Super Sports today (in the rain/drizzle this morning and clear this afternoon). These are excellent tires, beyond doubt. They stick like crazy and seem significantly quieter.

Looks good, waiting for a full review on the other thread. Looks like a rim protector lip on the tire, I like.

Did you order two sets? Why the hell is it so expensive? There is a $100 rebate right?

You cannot go wrong with either tire. They should be well scrubbed by May 21 for my first of a series of 5 runs over the next 6 monthes. Check out the flyer on .:|:. Z.O.N.C. .:|:. Z Owners of Northern California

Yup, I cannot pull the wool over your eyes. The second set is for the bro's Red 370Z. Got the $100 rebate (for only one set though).

Seriously considered the S-04's but too new of a tire and not enough reviews yet, so I went with a well reviewed tire.

Fern to the Z 04-23-2011 12:07 PM

which tire is best for use in a daily driver, were summer feels like its year round. The R-11's , V 12's , or Pzero ? BTW i'm talking about the following sizes 265/35/19 up front and a 285/35/19.

tomnavone 05-03-2011 08:35 PM

So far loving my Bridgestone s-04's super sticky and way more quiet than the stock tires. Only a hundred miles so far on them. Will update when more miles are added
