I have the same problem with Hankooks in the back. I drove them for ~1,000 miles already. I actually came off the freeway to check to see if I had a flat tire or if anything else happened to my car. I then thought they were too soft, but guess I'll just have to replace the fronts.

Back to the topic.. Maybe this is bc his front tires are warn out and he has brand new ones in the rear. Personaly i have never experianced this with running two types of tires front and rear. done it with all my cars. i have stockers in the front w Goodrich gForce t/a's in the rear on my Z and i think the car handles better than before. i think the "twitchy" feeling might be from the difference in tread depth. Just my $.02

I dont understand how some refuse to believe two different tires is not good, every single manufacturer and tire website advises against this as well... some tread patterns and tire composition work with each other and some dont...
yes tread depth certaintly plays a roll as well but two different tires CAN make your car feel un easy... its in my personal opinion that it is a bad idea... it HAS happened to me and has been corrected by matching the tires...

Soooo...1000 miles later and this is what I have learned.
Most of my issue was the having new (deeper tread depth) tires on the rear and well worn tires on the front. The front would actually respond faster than the rear causing the twitchiness feeling. I quickly installed the front RE-11 265's. This would be the case with or without matching brands of tire. Don't really have any experience mixing brands of new tires so I don't have an opinion on whether that is a bad idea. Also, while we all know new tires have a release agent that must be worn off in the first few 100 miles, I was not thinking about how long it would take for the tires to match my alignment. This took almost 750 miles on my car (lots of highway miles). Now after 1000 miles on all 4 tires I am once again in love with my Z Thanks for all of your input

Well I found out my car had all season tires in the rear and summers in the front and I haven't really run into any issues, even during spirited driving on some back roads. The front tires are almost done so I will get a matching pair of all seasons this summer.

I just posted this same issue on my 370Z
I guess this post is very common, I had the same thing I just replaced by rear tires (I had to replace one so I replaced both) I feel the same thing you do as soon as I pass 80mph it is crazy twitchy and wanting to go side to side.
I posted this about 3 days ago I took it to Nissan for alignment and back to the tire shop for further inspection, they replaced one tire for being out of round but that did not fix the issue. Everyone here is letting me know to go ahead and use the car for about 200 miles. I will be doing that and see how it feels, I do not need my front tires yet still at about 85% but if this does not go away I will have to stop being cheap and buy the two front ones. I am using Toyo Proxes4 stock size 245/45zr/18/100w Rear and stock Yokohomas in the front. |
