mustang do you remember how many miles were on the car when you put those hankooks on?

Around 18,500.

The left rear tire had about 5,000 on it when I had to replace it because of a puncture.

i had the same problem the OP had.....exact same one. ran the RE-11's for 800mi. and the car never felt fine. i would be on the freeway with my rear going everywhere. thought it was alignment and had it checked out and nothing....guys thought i was smoking till they drove it. went ahead and bought some hankooks all around and problem was solved.

didn't read through all the pages but this post shows why this guy thinks he knows all 370Z....

so thats around 23k for the rear tires and now about 7k into the left rear and right rear was replaced. just want an idea:tup: the depths arent massively different

Noooo I put the Hankooks on at 18,500 miles. They only had 9k on them at the most when I sold it.

spearfish, did you fix the cold vibration problem. my new sets dont shake in the cold, but the 285 crowns even more than the 265

Haven't had it happen again since it's been warmer. It was either temporary flat spotting due to extreme cold or that segment of highway was crap.

18500 hankooks put on

5k later left tire blows/replaced

23500mi new left rear goes on

30k right rear tire blows on massive rail spike in my driveway so my math

est.
6500ish on left rear
350ish on right rear.

i was trying to figure out how far off they are. Its hardly noticeable when i measured tread depth by using the highly accurate penny method

m4a1mustang 04-05-2011 04:31 PM

Ohhhh I thought you were trying to say the rears had 23k on them. :icon17:

Gotcha

Isamu 04-05-2011 04:47 PM

man, Im worried my tires have been sitting in the same position all winter...

b1adesofcha0s 04-05-2011 05:50 PM

Think I might just go with Hankooks and buy a set of 4. The money I save can be put towards a set of HFC's :D

I leave for one day and this is what happens?:shakes head:

So if I am sorting through the flaming BS on here effectively here is what I have learned:

1. Z2nv probalby does not own a car or a drivers license

2. RCZ is concerned for my health...thanks for that, but it will take a lot more than some twitching on the highway for me to lose control. Seriously your explanation seems the most likely:

Actually you shouldn't laugh too much at his "Theory" when he way more right than you are. Tires do have a break in period, but this is to achieve peak grip. Even brand new tires will not be sliding around and nervous like he is describing. You completely misread the OP post, what he is experiencing is the difference between brand new, full tread, wider stickier tires and worn out, crappy front tires. There's a big difference between the grip up front and the grip out back, the tread depth, the design of the tire structure and finally the fact that the rear alignment is probably a bit off so the moment he put the new tires on, that aren't worn unevenly, he is feeling the effects. That's going to give the rear a really sort of jittery feeling like it wants to go one way and then the other, almost tracking.

3. cossie1600 thinks I would actually put used tires on my 370:gtfo2:

4. It was also good to see that a few other people have experienced the same problem.

The main reason I went with rears only was to pass inspection and try to get a little more life out of the fronts, obviously I didn't think the adverse handling would be this bad with mixed matched tires. I put about 200 miles on the car last weekend and still had the same issue so I don't believe the compound was causing the problem. Was pretty familiar with that from motorcycle tires already.

Long story short I appreciate the feedback and have already put the fronts on order.

I will definately follow up once I get the fronts mounted...

Chan Chee Hoe 04-05-2011 06:47 PM

Can it be the 285's bigger than the stocks 275's....so the car ia not feeling the same.?
