Continental DW Tires
Hello,
Need help. I want to change tires on my 2011 base model. The Yokohama sport tires are a bit on the noisy side. Tire rack suggested the Yokohama Envigors but the reviews for quietest and comfortable ride go to Continental DW. I called a tire place that installs in my city and he said that the Continentals are only for the back tires. He said the cars computer system may get messed up if you change the tire size that isn't standard with the cars system. Am I wasting my money by changing the tires? |

If you wanna save a few bucks and ride on an awesome set of tires with ridiculous grip and good all weather traction. Try the hankook ventus es 4. They ride so quiet its unbelievable... and after 300miles of break in. They hang on like a vuce grip. They should run about 150-160 each. Pep boys might still be running buy 3 get one free on the tires.

I always liked the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's. Not necessarily for their dry performance (which is VERY good), but because their traction in wet weather seems about 90% as good as in dry. I could go WOT from idle in first gear (6-speed) in my LS1 F-body with these out back in a raging downpour and they would hook until about 5200rpm or so. Awesome performance. Dry traction was great, too, and I found break-away in corners very progressive and predictable with good feedback.

It is true that the Continental DW does not come in a 225/50/18 for the front but it does come in a 235/50/18 and I seriously doubt there would be any harm done by moving to that size.
Call the folks at Tirerack or Discount Tire Direct and see what they have to say though. As for me, I will be going to this very tire and probably moving to 235 in front and 255 in back (one size up from current). The rims are MORE than wide enough and in fact, the rears are about as wide as you should go for only a 245 tire that is on there now. Quote:

I have michelen pilots on mine and will never buy any other tire. They have the best ride, grip and low noise compared to others I've had on the car and also come with a mileage warranty.

ive also tried their all-seasons and they grip very well, summer tire territory. |

Ditto on the Michelins. I had the Pilot Sport A/S Plus on my previous '09 Z coupe. You can put a 275 on the rears and 255 up front for the same tread width as the 19" sport pkg.

this might be a moo point. I think the hankooks v12s are done for until Hankook releases a new version. I was told once they sell out they are done....

This really helps with my decision making with a tire to get the quietest ride. Just spoke with the folks at Tire rack and they don't know if the DWs sizes will work. They say the front will be taller than the back. They want me to call nissan to get width of front and back. Any help here with widths that will work? Sounds like the Michelin pilot sports have been good for people with quiet comfortable rides. The Hankooks are also highly rated. Still confused about what can work on my 370z which I love driving.

stock wheel/tire sizes: 225/50/18 (18x8.0") 245/45/18 (18x9.0") new tire sizes: 245/45/18 - front 245/45/18 - rear having staggered tires/wheels doesnt really do much. changing the tire size also WILL NOT disturb the computer in anyway. also...by going with a 245/45 in the front, you will keep almost the same exact tire ratio as 225/50 for the speedometer |
